| According to new reports on Heavy and f4wonline, early estimates indicate that Saturday's "Aldo vs. Faber" event generated between 150,000 and 200,000 buys. In other words (assuming the estimates are accurate), the WEC's first attempt at pay-per-view was a smashing success. A couple points to put those numbers in perspective: — 150k-200k is not too far off from the 240,000 buys that UFC 110 pulled in, with its roster full of MMA stars. — Affliction did no more than 100,000 buys with its first event. As a starting point for WEC-product on pay-per-view, it's very encouraging, and proves that Zuffa knows how to promote and package their fights. Now that fans know the WEC is worth their money, Zuffa is in an even better position for the next time they want to charge us. Of course, the lineup has to be just as compelling as "Aldo vs. Faber"'s. At this point, what could the WEC offer to make you shell out another $45? Urijah Faber vs. Miguel Torres as a co-headliner seems like a no-brainer to me... http://www.cagepotato.com/report-aldo-vs-faber-draws-150k-200k-ppv-buys | |

| Isn't that good? I was expecting lower.
I made an old thread about people's expectations.

| I say thats a pretty solid buyrate.
I strongly doubt Zuffa had higher expectations for a PPV card full of fighters people are used to being able to watch for free.

| The WEC's biggest stars promoted by the UFC do Arlovski-Fedor numbers. Smashing success for a non Zuffa promotion, weak by Zuffa's standards. Just because it was close in buyrates to abysmally disappointing UFC cards doesn't make it successful.

Cagecrackpipe is trippin. just because it is zuffa owned does not mean it needs UFC type #'s to be successful. Im sure fighter salaries are significantly lower then most(if not all) UFC cards. combine the ppv, with the prelim #'s on spike(WEC prelims get 1mil viewers?????) and I have to believe ZUFFA is very happy.

| How many buys did they lose based on branding alone?
Slap UFC on those blue empty gloves and the cage and this thing does 400k at least. The WEC's biggest fight promoted by the Zuffa machine and it does 150? They made money now I am sure, but part of the reason the whole PPV idea was set in motion to even the gap in payscale, and as long as the best WEC can do is Affliction #s, it will stay low.
The WEC is in more danger than any promotion on Earth.

| They made money based on WEC overhead as it stands, but switching to the PPV model means a change in the status quo. | |

| Seems pretty decent numbers to me, I mean no one was expecting it to crack 300k.
Bernard Hopkins vs Roy Jones Jr done somewhere between 135,000 and 145,000. |

| Those are great numbers for the WEC's first PPV. I believe the Roy Jones fight got 90,000 buys and Dana said the WEC would double that, it sounds like he could be right on the money. | |

Golden Boy's Schaefer told ESPN.com that the final pay-per-view total for the April 3 Bernard Hopkins-Roy Jones rematch will fall "between 135,000 and 145,000 when everything is said and done." If that's the case, Jones, who was to be paid after expenses were covered and Hopkins received the first $3.5 million of profit, won't make a penny for his trouble in the lopsided decision loss. Hopkins will make money but nowhere close to $3.5 million. http://espn.go.com/sports/boxing/notebook/_/id/5127500/cris-arreola-tomasz-adamek-make-history |

| How much of these numbers are just Korean Zombie numbers? The card does less without that fight, I think we all agree on that. What was this number with the UFC brand affixed to it?
Merger. Just run two companys like they do now, but WEC title fights for FW and BW on PPV.

| Surely they didnt expect to out draw the UFC. Good numbers for a first PPV. | |

| The show did sub UFC numbers, was unbranded so essentially doesn't make the WEC any more sellable, and used the biggest fight the WEC has out there.
The show proves that even the biggest WEC names marketed directly by the UFC PPV marketing machine still do below UFC numbers without the UFC brand.
Affliction does similar numbers and everyone was like "wtf failure!". The WEC is as good as dead.
