He can't. He had to use it before the fight. He decided to just see what happens he said it in an interview with MMA Fanhouse.

I don't remember where I read it, but yesterday I read that the one-fight option might not mean much because while the option does exist, his contract expires outright soon and there isn't much time to get that potential fight in before it expires.

and strikeforce slowly starts to crumble like affliction. watch overeem piss bad, fedor not fight till december and strikeforce call it quits... lol just a thought

Shields wouldn't go for another fight with Strikeforce. Did you hear him in the post fight interview? He knows he was disrespected, and he's clearly not happy with that. Can't say I blame him. 13 fight win streak and the guy just beat the second best middleweight in the organization a few months ago and now you bring in a 39 year old and act like your guy has no shot while promoting the shit out of the new guy? I'd be pissed too.
