125 - Should be Escobedo from Indiana and Nickerson from Cornell. Both are former Nat'l Champions looking to secure their second title respectively in their senior years. The darkhorse is McDonough from Iowa, only a freshman.
133 - Here you have defending Nat'l Champ Franklin Gomez of Michigan State. However, he just lost in the semis of the big tens to Dennis of Iowa, who is also in the running. Ness from Minnesota, the Big Ten Champ is probably the favorite now. The darkhorse is a freshman from Okl. State, Jordan Oliver.
141 - The number 1 seed is Kyle Dake from Cornell. However, Thorn from Minnesota, Humphrey from Ohio State, Marion from Iowa, and Parks from Okl. State are all possible champs as well.
149 - This is perhaps one of the most intriguing weights. The number 1 seed is Lance Palmer of Ohio State who just beat the most dominant wrestler of the past 3 years, Brent Metcalf of Iowa in the Big Ten finals. Metcalf was a national champ in 2008 and a runner up last year. Hopefully both make it to the finals and they have a rematch of their Big Ten match. Metcalf never runs out of gas and pushes an incredible pace. Palmer is super athletic and is unbelievably hard to score on. This is a must see match, if they both get to the finals.
157 - The three big guns here are Schlatter from Minnesota, O'Connor from Harvard and Hall from Boise State. The darkhorse is Sanderson from Penn State. Anybody's weight class here.
165 - Howe from Wisconsin, Marable from Missouri, Vallimont from Penn State, Reader from Iowa State, and King from Edinboro all have a good shot. This is also a toss up weight class.
174 - This finals matchup should be Lewnes from Cornell and Borschel from Iowa. These are the clear top two in the weight imo and should have a great match.
184 - Another toss up weight. Keddy from Iowa, Dergo from Illinois, Cannon from American, Kilgore from Kent State, Askren from Missouri, and Smith from Boise State all have great chances here.
197 - This weight should be owned by defending National Champ and USA team member, Jake Varner of Iowa State. Look for Brester of Nebraska or Taylor of Maryland to make it to the finals against him.
285 - This is another toss up weight class. Dudziak from Duke is a returning National finalist, however, several guys are in the running, including Rey from Lehigh, Zabriskie from Iowa State, Erekson from Iowa, Monteiro from Cal State, Rosholt from Okl. State, and even Trice from Central Michigan, though he is probably an outside chance. Im predicting Rosholt vs. Dudziak in the finals, but anything can happen.
Of course, in all these weights, anybody can lose in any round. The competition is that deep. Enjoy everyone.
