Fighters.com Heavyweight Champion “Last Emperor” Fedor Emelianenko (29-1) could possibly fight “Snowman” Jeff Monson (27- instead of ninth-ranked “Babyface Assassin” Josh Barnett (20-5) at Affliction M-1 Global’s Trilogy in Anaheim 1 August.

“We are working on it now,” a source inside “The Snowman’s” camp told Fighters.com Wednesday afternoon. Monson is excited about the possibility, Fighters.com’s source said.

Barnett has been denied a license to fight by the California State Athletic Commission after testing positive for “performance-enhancing substance,” according to Affliction Veep Tom Atencio in Sports Illustrated Wednesday morning.


Xtreme Couture middleweight “Phenom” Vitor Belfort’s (17- camp has told several sources the one-time UFC heavyweight champion is willing to return to heavyweight to replace Barnett. He’s already scheduled to fight American Top Team’s Sengoku middleweight
champion Jorge Santiago (21-7) at Trilogy. Belfort’s trainer, Shawn Tompkins, told Sports Illustrated making that fight would come down to money.

In response to a text message, management for heavyweight “Headhunter” Paul Buentello (27-9), also already on the card, replied to Fighters.com Wednesday afternoon, “Nothing yet.”

Also rumored, pro-wrestling convert “Dominator” Bobby Lashley (3-0) told Sherdog, “I don’t know if I would want [to fight Emelianenko] right now.”

I would add Lashley too. Even though he denied it last night, I still think there is a chance he will take the fight.

I don't know man it just seems like the Fedor fight in general will fall apart

Monson would be a decent opponent.

Monson is a solid vet, but he has absolutely nothing for Fedor. At least with Belfort he has quick hands and a fury could make it interesting and Rogers is huge and could land a big KO shot.

Monson's striking game has improved and his grappling is always good. He is hard to submit. Matt Serra to Fedor's GSP.

I see that, but Serra doesn't land those big shots again if they fought 20 times in a row.

I have a feeling Monson would fight Fedor not to lose on the ground and we get a snoozfest.

Easier said than done... The only rankings I'm finding on their site are at least a year old. I guess I'll have to call their hidden rankings a joke based on what they wrote in that article. I don't know why it bothers me so much when these sites are so far off when tryting to rank, but it does. Maybe it's because I feel part of your credibility is lost when your opinion is so far off?!?
