| I thought this was one of the more interresting fights that was brought up in our current dream cards that we did that alot of us put on there.
What would you guys see happening in this fight? Personally I think this would be a very good and tough fight for both fighters.

| Alves is more of a brawler than a Muay Thai master IMO. Elite boxing will trump anything Alves brings to the table. On the ground, BJ would eat him up. Alves is a bad man but I don't think its a good matchup for him

| BJ Penn's vastly superior boxing would lead to a KO. They have the same reach. Alves has few tools BJ can't answer. | |

| Yeah I would have Penn winning this fight as well, but I dont think it would be as one sided as you guys are saying. | |

| Not saying it would be the Sanchez fight or anything. Maybe slightly less dominating than what a one-legged GSP did to him. | |

| Alves has been subbed 3 times in his 6 loses including a sub loss to Spencer Fisher who is a LW. So I would say BJ via sub. | |

| That is a possibility to SOONER, but BJ likes to stand and bang, and so does Alves. Alves takedown D is still pretty awesome so I don't know if BJ could take it down at will.
KO. | |

| That is GSP though, ask Matt Hughes about his takedown D. No one else besides GSP in recent times has been able to get him down. I also expect him to stop fitches takedowns and concuss him inside two rounds. | |

| Elite boxing by MMA standards beats muay thai brawlers any day of the week. I liken it to what lil nog did to Cane | |

| I hate this fight because they are 2 of my fav fighters. But I see this a lot closer then most and maybe BJ winning by sub. Yes Alves has been subbed but how long ago was this. GSP could not finish him and I am more eager for a rematch between GSP vs Alves/BJ then to see those 2 fight. Alves seemed gun shy and a bit overwhelmed the first time vs GSP. | |

| I understand the sub thing but I believe Alves is a completely different fighter then he was then. I think BJ pulls off the sub just because he is BJ not for the reasoning that is given. I see BJ frustrating Alves standing until somehow they end up on the floor where BJ finishes him. | |

| Might end up looking like BJ vs Machida. But Penn might have a better chance to get in a wrap him up for a sub. | |

| Thiago Alves isn't close to what Machida is, and the weight difference won't be close either. Bad comparison.
If BJ gets Thiago's back, it's over. If Thiago stands and trades, it's over. No way for him to win this fight.

| BJ uses his boxing to pick apart Alves, gets a takedown early in the 3rd and wins by RNC.
Note: Other great wrestlers did not have the same success getting Alves down as GSP, it's just GSP.

| Ummmm.... I can't even imagine BJ Penn beating Thiago Alves standing. He obviously has the ability to submit him, but standing? Seriously? BJ Penn's best tool is his jab. Thiago Alves has the best jab I've ever seen in MMA. He's probably about 30 lbs. heavier, he's in better shape, he hits REALLY hard. He has very good leg kicks that he can use to keep BJ Penn at a longer range if he needs to. I would pick Alves by a mauling. | |

| Thiago Alves isn't an especially good puncher. BJ Penn hits really hard too. Joe Stevenson and Diego were dropped by the first punch he landed, and all he had were KO's in his first LW run ten years ago. BJ Penn would pick him apart, and if he tried leg kicks, the fight ends up on the canvas, the last place Alves wants to be.
BJ Penn would crush Thiago Alves standing. You gotta know how to breakdown technique chorky to call these kinds of fights.
