PostSubject: NFL HOF   NFL HOF EmptyTue Feb 09, 2010 2:52 pm

I was thinking about this again when this years inductees were named. The NFL Hall has become almost as big a joke as MLB's Hall. I have no problem with guys like Rice and Emmitt being brought in obviously, but how can you ignore guys like Tim Brown, Cris Carter, Shannon Sharpe and Dermontti Dawson just so you can make sure some borderline defensive players or "Veterens Committee" selections (Jackson, LeBeau, Little) get in? The four guys that I just named are commonly mentioned in the same breath with the all-time greats. And I loved Grimm, but after falling short 5 times prior (And not even being a finalist for the first 5 years of eligibility) he was suddenly more deserving than the others? Just like MLB's Hall, guys are suddenly worthy after being ignored for 5, 10, 15 years? How exactly does that work? Did they suddenly discover a long lost film that showed they had an unknown skill or missing statistics? The Pro Football Hall Of Fame... No longer reserved for the best of the best...

I agree that some people got snubbed that shouldnt have and it happens all the time. They are going to get in the HOF regardless.

I am definately shocked that Cris Carter was not a first ballot HOF'r. He was one of 3 players to reach 1,100 receptions in their career.

I dont have a problem with LeBeau getting in because he was a decent player and a GREAT defensive coordinator.

The only guy I have a problem of getting snubbed this year was Carter.

Cris Carter not being a 1st ballot HOFer is fucking crazy. So what Jerry Rice is the only 1st ballot worthy WR ever? Better not put T.O. or Randy in 1st ballot either. Just fucking retarded, Carter is a no brainer 1st ballot HOFer.

Don't forget Sharpe guys... Retired #1 in every receiving category as a TE, even if his blocking skills were questionable. Semi-understandable since the Hall has historically screwed TE's... All of the greats - Casper, Winslow, Ditka, Newsome and Smith didn't get in on their first ballots. But they should have. Was Ozzie Newsome more deserving the year he got snubbed for Paul Krause?... Hell yes!!!

Again, Grimm, Jackson, LeBeau and Little are in no way more deserving to me than Dawson, Carter, Brown, Reed, Sharpe or even Richard Dent to be honest...

I would agree with Grimm and Jackson not being as deserving, but LeBeau was a pretty good player and one of the best D-coordinators in NFL history. I have ZERO problems with him getting in.

I think they should sub out Grimm and Jackson for Carter and Sharpe.

LOL... Yeah, Tim Brown doesn't deserve to be in the conversation because the slacker fell 6 short of 1,100 catches. Both should have been first ballot, IMO. Reed is deserving as well... But I'm not as bent about him not being there.

You should though... Considering he was JUST a pretty solid player and got in as a player, not as a coach. What's next, are they going to snub Carter again next year to make room for Bubba Baker?

I didnt even realize Brown had that many catches. Nothing will ever be perfect though, I dont know why you guys would expect these types of things to be any different.

It's not that I'm concerned, Tim. I know they will be in eventually (Probably Reed as well). It's just the ridiculous nature of what the voting has become. It's similar to baseball in that you have to stroke the voters in recent years. Cris Carter can be argued as a top-3 to 5 all-time, yet he had a couple of dark years and wasn't a media darling... So he waits?

Think of two years ago... Andre Tippett went ten years of eligibility without even making a finalist list and gets in a year later while Derrick Thomas, one of the premier OLB's in the history of the game takes five tries to get in because a few voters argued him as being too one dimansional... Are you serious? Andre Tippett was barely above average, was also primarily a pass rusher and had half the skill that Thomas had. Other than the Hall lacking players from the Patriots (Newly dubbed America's team), there's no other excuse for him being catapulted past Thomas. If he was so freaking worthy, someone would have pushed him in that ten year gap, don't you think? If I sit back and really think about the past decade's snubs and inductees, I'm positive I can come up with at least another half dozen examples of the Hall becoming nothing more than a back asswards popularity contest rather than a shrine reserved for the best of the best. That was the main reason for me making the thread... Not that I'm concerned about this years snube never getting in. Very few that should be in, never get put in. In fact, short of LC Greenwood I can't think of anyone that has been given a permanent snub. Terry Bradshaw should give his spot up to LC, IMO.

Im with u Chris Carter maybe the best TD reciever I have ever seen. he should have been a first ballot guy but the actual people that vote all have there grudges and shit. They dont go by just numbers they have personal preferences.
