| Shaq vs. lets say Brett Rogers or Fedor vs. Barnett
It's basically a question asking would a freak show outsell a legitimate super-fight in the US.
Take note that Fedor and Barnett are both known but overwhelmingly

| There is millions of people that watch jersey shore ... of course the freak show would out sell the fedor fight by a huge number I think ...
but than again I always doubt the masses.

| Definitely Shaq-Rogers. Just throw together a few sound bites of Shaq saying he's going to destroy him, some video clips of Rogers KOs and you have a nice selling PPV | |

| I was going to do Fedor vs. Brock, but I thought that might wins overwhelmingly, so I went with Fedor vs. Barnett, now it looks like Shaq vs. Rogers will win hands down. | |

| Fedor would sell more vs a legit opponent. Freakshows have ceilings. | |

| I kind of agree with Wolfy.
If the question was "which fight would have higher ratings on CBS", Shaq wins hands down, but for a PPV? I disagree that "the masses" would shell out $40-50 to watch Shaq fight.

| Wolf, Freak shows do have ceilings, but you are forgetting that some are much higher than others. Shaquille would sell 2.5 to 3 million PPVs, it isn't right, but it is what it is. | |

You're basically saying that not only would a Shaq PPV outsell the #1-4 most coveted MMA Matchup (depending on who you ask), it would outsell it by something like 25-50x fold (based on Afflictions PPV numbers). I don't argue much, but NFW dude. Thinking about it a bit more, I completely agree with Wolfy. I stand by what I said. Far more people would watch a Shaq fight than a Fedor fight, I absolutely agree with that, but it would be a whole different ballgame when you ask people to spend $50 to watch it. I think Shaq's popularity is also being over-estimated. Edit: Double-quoted

| Actually that would have been around double, UFC 100 did about 1.6 million buys, not 25x as much, but whatever. What I was thinking (I made an error in calculation) was that the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight was going to do an estimate of 2.2-2.4 million PPV buys, possibly higher, therefore more people know and like Shaq than they do those two. What I forgot to remember is that we have a lot of Latinos and Filipinos in this country and they would be much less inclined to purchase an MMA card vs boxing. I still think the Shaq card would do about 2 million though. Fedor is still not as well known and Barnett is nearly as famous. | |

| Who deleted my post? Don't do it again.
As I said the first time;
Andrew, you honestly think a fight with Shaq vs a dude Fedor made famous would sell more than the biggest boxing fight of all time?
Why do we talk to this faggot?
I certainly neg repped you.

| one thing though if fedor made rogers famous then fedor is famous by default.. I think the crowd attracted by shaq would have little idea about rogers.
that being said shaq outsells fedor but thats america

| People are stupid, but not that stupid. People wouldn't pay to see shaq fight. Some might tune on on CBS, but out-selling? That is another story. | |

Despite my stance that Fedor vs Barnett would outsell Shaq, Fedor vs Barnett's numbers would be far closer to Affliction's (a place where Fedor actually fought on PPV) PPV numbers than to a rival promotion's #1 MMA event ever. UFC 100's numbers are almost completely irrelevant to this thread. The only relevance is that now you make the point that you feel there's a possibility that a Shaq fight not only would outsell Fedor-Barnett, but would pull in double the buys as the biggest MMA event of all time did. No man...just no. What are you guys who say the Shaq would outsell the Fedor fight basing that stance on? I mean again I don't think the Fedor fight would even touch 200k buys unless it took place in the UFC, but I don't think a Shaq fight could get anywhere close to that even. Shaq fighting on network TV would blow a Fedor event out of the water, but on PPV? People are canceling their cable subscriptions outright because they need the money to put food on the table, but they're going to spend $40-50 to watch Shaq in an MMA fight? Both events would fail, but the Fedor fight would still get business from hardcore MMA fans. The Shaq fight would be purchased by 176 Shaq homers in LA, Orlando, and Miami, and a few thousand rich people who like freakshows - the rest of the country doesn't care enough about 'some old basketball player' to pay money to watch him fight. I think it would be a lot like the Superbowl. Everyone watches the Superbowl (well not everyone, but like 40 million homes at any given time), but how many would watch it if it was on PPV?

| I guess I was assuming the question was which MAIN EVENT would outsell the other .. meaning that there was the same 4 really good fights before both options...
for some reason I think the public would be sold into seeing good fights and wanting to see Shaq fight, who isnt a Herschel Walker or Jose Canseco.. he is a personality and liked by many ..
if it was a PPV and it was only 1 fight, then this topic is weird.

| If both fights took place in the UFC (which is the only way this argument can be fairly made) I think Shaq still outsells Fedor, but not by a huge margin. Look at Brock Lesnar, who is a far lesser star than Shaq worldwide, he's one of the UFC's biggest draws with only a few fights under his belt. If the UFC put money behind marketing a Shaq fight as a main event it would sell.
Fedor in the UFC would also sell, big time. This is what the crazy Russians either don't understand or don't care about. The UFC makes Fedor a star beyond what Strikeforce could ever come close to at this point.
Both fights in a UFC main event would be big sellers, I just think given Shaq's worldwide star power he would probably outsell Fedor by a small margin. Hardcore fans would laugh Shaq out of the cage but there would be a lot of people looking in to see what the big aristotle could do. People who don't know the sport might think a guy as big as Shaq could dominate. Shaq played in LA as well, which is a town with money and lots of Shaq fans.
Strike Shaq's name and put Kobe in place, how do you think that would sell? Huge.

| Fedor has never been a big PPV draw. Bodog went belly up because of it.
Those that voted for Fedor vs Barnett just dont wanna admit it. Shaq would definitely be a bigger draw than Kimbo and he dwarfs Fedor in ratings and would do the same in PPV buys.
