| Finally a stiff test for JDS, we should learn a lot about him in this fight. | |

| If Dos Santos wins this you got to give him a title shot IMO. 5 straight wins in the UFC, the first 4 came in impressive fassion. I don't care how he beats Gabe, he wins he needs a shot. | |

| Yeah it would be awfully tough to justify Carwin waiting for a title shot with that resume while JDS goes through Werdum, CroCop, Struve, Yvel, and Gonzaga and doesn't. He will still need to win another fight though | |

| Ya, if JDS beats Gonzaga he matches Carwin's best win and has several others worth more than Carwin's record too.
JDS should win this but if he doesn't the UFC will regret giving Gonzaga, who is a journeymen in most people's eyes, a chance to halt the rise of their young gun.

Not sure how much of a step up he is from Werdum and CC. IMO JDS has not been babied in any way.

Good point, Werdum is better than anyone he's faced, but JDS is a good match up because he's so good standing while Werdum isn't. GG is a nice well rounded experienced fighter that isn't going to overlook JDS. JDS is very very very close to a title shot in my eyes.

He hasn't really been babied but he hasn't fought any top contendors either. He hasn't fought Mir, Kongo, Gonzaga, Cain, Nog, Carwin, or even Herring. Without beating any of those guys I don't know how you can really justify giving him a title shot. At least now he'll get to fight Gonzaga, that's a logical next step for him anyway.

| He faced the biggest test of his UFC career by far in his first fight. I mean, this is a good fight and all but doesn't make a lot of sense ranking wise. He has already had big fights. Top ten opponents from now on please. | |

I consider Werdum and CC atleast on par with Herring and even Gonzaga himself. But I would say his road in the UFC has been harder then Carwins. Carwin also never fought a top guy like Kongo, Mir, Cain and Nog. I know he was suppose to before everything fell apart but still you think he is worthy of mentioning with "top guys" but IMO JDS is every bit as impressive.

| Bigs didn't he flatten a number 1 contender who was in a win and in title situation, who is still on a lot of top ten lists? A guy who around the same time also stopped Gonzaga and Vera. Gonzaga is good, but his only real top ten win was CC, who JDS has also just beat.
I suppose though that this fight is worthwhile from a ground game perspective. Gonzaga if he can make it to the ground should test where he is there. He hasn't faced a lot of stiff competition on the ground yet.

| Can people stop calling Herring a top guy, what has he done besides scrape past Kongo is a fight he by rights should have lost, get run over by a Brock who still didn't know how to fight, get totally dominated by Nog worse than he had in his prior fights with him outside the one knockdown that didn't even rock Nog as bad as everyone thinks, and lose to a Jake O'brien who had to drop out of the weight class and still got released by the UFC.
Heath Herring is a joke at this point. Not even top 25 anymore.
