Hunt: I don't want a rematch Empty
PostSubject: Hunt: I don't want a rematch   Hunt: I don't want a rematch EmptyThu Dec 12, 2013 10:19 am

Rocky 1 famously ended with Apollo Creed telling Rocky “There ain't going to be no rematch."

"Don't want one," replied an exultant but losing Balboa.

Mark Hunt vs. Bigfoot was more thrilling than any fiction, but it looks like there ain't going to be a quick rematch, or maybe no rematch at all.

Firstly, as UFC president Dana White explained, Hunt is on the injured list.

"In that fight, Hunt broke his hand in two places, so he's gonna be out for awhile," said White. "No, there won't be an immediate rematch. I'm assuming Silva is gonna want to fight again before Hunt is back."

And in an interview with MMAJunkie's Ben Fowlkes, Hunt said he doesn't see the need.

“It was pretty even,” said Hunt accurately. “I didn’t mind it being a draw. We still walked out of there and back to our families pretty much in one piece. It could have gone either way. There’s so many arguments you could make about who won the fight or who did more, but who cares? It was a pretty good fight.”

So does Hunt want a rematch to decide once and for all?

“Honestly? No,” said Hunt. “It probably wouldn’t be as good as the first one. It would probably end a lot quicker. So honest opinion, no. Why ruin a good thing?”

“I’m always going to think that I’m the best fighter in the world at the end of the day. I wouldn’t still be fighting if I didn’t think so. People might look at me like I’m stupid when I say that, but those are my thoughts, my opinions. I want to compete, and that’s why I’m still here, still doing this. I don’t care what anyone says.”

This is one of those rare instances where I don't want to see a rematch. Just like Shogun/Hendo or Shogun/Rogerio etc etc etc, it wouldn't be nearly as good as the first time. That kind of lightning just doesn't strike twice in the heavyweight division.

Fair enough.

Those type of fights shorten the life expectancy of those who take part in them imo. If they don't have a rematch, they'll both live longer.

Just watched the fight and from Anik to you guy's I came away from the fight thinking it was a glorified toughman competition. Good fight, but nowhere near what everyone has been talking about. I'm shocked both guy's didn't just quit from exhaustion in the last two rounds. Tons of heart from both guy's but it looked like two amateurs for 85% of the fight.

Quit from exhaustion in the last 2 rounds? That was damn near good as its gonna get for two men north of 265 lbs 20 minutes into a fight man. I don't know what you were expecting

I agree with Hunt. No need to run that back, it won't live up to the 1st fight.

Yes I have seen many and maybe I over reacted a bit, but the fight was sloppy and didn't live up to the hype I had heard about. Blood doesn't mean it was that great. It was a decent fight, but it would've been betterif it was 3 rounds and they both didn't have to hold back. Both didn't deserve championship rounds.

So even while exhausted Hunt landed 50+ punches in the 5th round. Show Me an amateur Heavyweight fight where someone lands 50 strikes after 20 minutes.

I don't see it as being too much different then Hendo vs Shogun. They were pretty spent out there but many people have that fight high up on the all time list.

Can you point me towards better or more compelling HW fights this year then that lazy nub-fest?
