Neither of these guys landed much in the way of clean strikes, so it's not surprising the judges were gay for takedowns and put more weight on Phil coming forward and throwing more while Machida sat back.
By now anyone who doesn't understand how the judges score MMA needs to take notes. It might not be the right way, but it's been pretty consistent in that regard. This is nothing new people. Lyoto let Davis get comfortable standing and didn't make him pay for those takedowns or the kicks Phil was throwing, and it cost him tonight.

| Machida landed 6 more significant strikes per Fightmetric.com. That's a margin of 2 strikes per round, or 1 strike every 150 seconds. Few strikes landed by either guy were clean. However while Machida sat back for a substantial portion of the fight Davis was mixing in takedown attempts(although not especially successful with them) as well as throwing more strikes(almost two thirds more). I didn't score it for Davis, but I wasn't exactly shocked when they announced the decision.
Machida let a fighter who had no business standing with him for 15 minutes, stand with him for 15 minutes and then he whines about losing a fight that he allowed to become closer than it ever should have been. He played it safe as soon as Davis landed that takedown in the first round and when he backed off Davis kept coming forward and was never really given a reason to back off. | |

| I did not see the fight but if you told me that phil only took him down twice late in each rd, I wold assume he got schooled on the feet in each rd and did finish alot of td attempts | |

| Machida won that 30-27. In saying that though he needs to change his style because of how MMA is judged these days. |

| I forgot about this card lol but I was at Panthers Fan Fest all day. I had a feeling this card was on but didn't bother to check and I see Machida losing to a decision for not fighting and running away again. Typical. Seems like I didn't miss out on anything saw the highlights on Anderson Silva Jr. not doing much when he knows he can smash anyone but I'll catch the Sonnen fight for sure | |
