But where does he put himself on the list? Everyone that follows MMA has a greatest of all time list. It occasionally confuses people that don't follow the sport when fans call a particular fighter the GOAT though. That term is usually used to describe guys that screw up and cost their team a game, like Bill Buckner in the 1986 World Series. In terms of MMA though, most people generally believe that either Anderson Silva or Fedor Emelianenko is the greatest of all time right now, and that Jon Jones could become that guy one day. So when UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo was asked for his GOAT list in an interview with Esporte, it wasn't all that surprising who he had at number one. But his number five pick is a bit out there. Himself. - Quote :
- "Man, I think we all have a list. The number one for me is Fedor Emelianenko. I'm a big fan, the guy is so amazing."
"In second I put Royce (Gracie), then Chuck Liddell, Anderson Silva, and then there's me." Does Aldo deserve serious consideration on a GOAT list at this point? He's 22-1, and has been the WEC/UFC featherweight champion for over four years. He has six total title defenses, four of which went to decision. He's undoubtedly the best 145-pound fighter in the world, but is that enough? Will it a take a move to lightweight and a possible title run there for him to qualify? I'm not sure. But I do find it amusing that he put himself on his own list, that's for sure. His top 5-1. Fedor Emelianenko 2. Royce Gracie 3. Chuck Liddell 4. Anderson Silva 5. Jose Aldo |

| Hard to put Aldo on any all time list at this point. He's the best featherweight yet to compete in MMA, but that division is still young and only just this past year started to fill with legitimate contenders. | |

| Fedor, Spider, bones, GSP, Aldo for me
I like and think Aldo will be LW champ one day. I can't put Chuck over him because of the Pride loss. Aldo is a dominant force like bones. End of thread | |

| Aldo can't be top 5 in my opinion because the only great fighter he has beaten is Edgar and even that was controversial. He has struggled with the weight cut and it's effected his performances. He has time to go though and moving to 155 might make him become an even better fighter. I wouldn't be surprised if he finishes his career as a top 5 GOAT. Fedor, Anderson and GSP are in the top 5 and it's not even debatable. The other 2 spots are out of Jon Jones, Wanderlei Silva, BJ Penn, Dan Henderson, Chuck Liddell and Matt Hughes. |
