Manny Gamburyan Out With Injury, Nik Lentz Takes His Place at UFC on FX 8Manny Gamburyan has been on the sidelines since last
August, and although he had a fight scheduled for UFC on FX 8 on May 18
in Brazil, it’s going to be a while longer before he returns to the
Octagon.
UFC officials on Monday announced the Gamburyan has suffered another injury, forcing him out of his scheduled fight with
Hacran Dias.
Dias will instead face
Nik Lentz.
Dias (21-1-1) enters the bout on a nine-fight winning streak. He last
set foot in the Octagon last June when he defeated Yuri Alcantara at
UFC 147.
Lentz (23-5-2) had been going through a rough patch after
back-to-back losses to close 2011 and open 2012. He has since
rejuvenated his career by dropping from lightweight down to
featherweight, where he has won his last two fights.
Lentz’s last fight was at UFC on FX 7 in Brazil in January, where he defeated Diego Nunes and sent him packing from the Octagon.
It took Gamburyan several months to get a fight lined up following
his victory over Michihiro Omigawa last August. He had been slated to
fight Chad Mendes at the UFC 157: Rousey vs. Carmouche event, but an
injury forced him out of that fight. Now he’s also out of the May bout
as well, once again awaiting his return to the Octagon.
A middleweight bout between Vitor Belfort and Strikeforce middleweight champion Luke Rockhold headlines the
UFC on FX 8 fight card.
