| Well could he TKO Alves or Fitch? Probably 90% of knockouts are of the technical variety. Not much I've seen of makes me think BJ couldn't knock out those guys in some kind of fashion, Alves being probably the more difficult of the two. | |

Sure he could TKO them, that's a whole different ball game. He could hurt them and flurry on them to finish the fight but that's entirely different than a KO.

He didn't KO Sherk or Thomas. I got to watch the din thomas fight again before I argue that one but Sherk was KOed up against the fence with a flying knee. True Herb Dean is stupid and didn't call the fight untill everybody in the place started yelling he's done. But He was out, it would have been easier to call if it happen in the middle of the round and not the last seconds

| No chance BJ KO's Alves even though he in his fights has rocked, knocked down or TKO'd as follows ;
Matt Hughes Sean Sherk Joe Stevenson Caol Uno Din Thomas Diego Sanchez
Both Diego and Joe were nearly finished in the opening exchange. Matt Hughes has admittedly said he only got sub'd because he was half KO'd.
Thiago's BJJ sucks compared to BJ's, he isn't attempting no takedowns, so the whole fight would be standing. Thiago's style is an aggressive brawler, BJ's is a counter-boxer. They both have 70 inch reaches. BJ would victimize Thiago unmercifully on their feet stylistically, with Alves not having a speed or a reach advantage, and having no ground game to fall back on. Alves walks forward, throws, gets tagged, rinse, repeat.
The only way Alves doesn't get finished is if he refuses to exchange after eating some leather and surviving early, ala Sanchez' broken will. Sure, if Alves runs away, he might get battered to a lopsided decision loss.
BJ has power kids, his first four UFC wins were KO or TKOs, and since then he has simply used his power to set up submissions like in the Joe Stevenson and Matt Hughes fights among others.
But I could see how you'd think there was "no way" BJ could stop him...
...if you don't know shit about either fighters styles, don't know how to use that to break fights down, don't understand how BJ Penn wins, don't remember/never watched a lot of his recent fights ect.

| BJ could take em both. After seeing him vs Diego I think he could beat any WW with the exception of GSP. | |
