The
UFC is set to feature a title-defense on network television for the third time when
flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson puts his gold up for grabs against
TUF 14 winner
John Dodson in the main event at
UFC on FOX 6.
With the January 26 card less than two weeks away, fans and fighters
are gearing up for what should be a highly entertaining event with other
featured bouts including
Anthony Pettis-Donald Cerrone and
Quinton Jackson-Glover Teixeira.
All six of the aforementioned stars are scheduled to participate in a
conference call with media this afternoon at 2:00 PM EST and, as usual,
Five Ounces of Pain will be on the line and relaying highlights back to our readers as things unfold in real time.
Read below for a breakdown of comments:Demetrious Johnson- Approaching the fight as he would any bout regardless of the belt being on the line
John Dodson- Feels blessed and wants to put on a good show to let the world know flyweights are legit
- Doesn’t care how he wins so long as he has his hand raised
Anthony Pettis- Doesn’t expect any ring rust / “I feel ready…I’m feeling good.”
- Thinks loss to Clay Guida made him a better fighter since it exposed holes in his game
- “I’m not worried about a title-shot. I’m worried about getting Ws under my belt.”
- “I’m not afraid of anybody in this division.”
Donald Cerrone- Not sure if Gilbert Melendez deserves a title-shot but is sure he
and Pettis are going to put on a “helluva fight” at the event
- “We’re going to throw the f*ck down.”
- Tells the flyweights they need to fight on a different card if they want to win Fight of the Night
Quinton Jackson- Trained in England based on how tough the sparring opponents were
and wanted to let his regular teammates/coaches have Christmas with
their families
- Isn’t convinced Teixeira will actually stand with him and is prepared
for his BJJ/wrestling / “I kind of lost some respect for him.”
- Still wants out of the UFC
- Says he’s sponsored by Reebok and the UFC won’t let him wear their logo in the Octagon for financial reasons
- Claims UFC offered to renegotiate his deal and extend it but he wasn’t
interested / “I feel like they’re getting rich off of all of us…I want
to go somewhere where they take care of their fighters and they treat us
like human beings.”
- “I don’t fight to have a pretty record. I fight to pay my bills.”
- Doesn’t think there’s any way the UFC can mend fences with him
Glover Teixeira- Responds to Jackson’s criticism by saying he’s going to implement his gameplan and left it at that
- Isn’t calling for a title-shot if he wins

are going to stand with me when most of his training camp is taking me
down and fighting me on the ground just like the other guys. These
cowards needs to do what they say they're going to do and stop trying to
confuse me and have me training in other areas but I'm smarter than
that now. Now I see his game plan."Jackson also talked about his intentions to leave the UFC. When asked if
it was linked with being matched up with wrestler-based fighters by UFC
matchmaker Joe Silva, he responded:
"No, no, that's just one of the reasons. That's not the primary
reason. I have a new reason now, I sponsored by Reebok now and the UFC
said I'm not allowed to wear Reebok in the cage when other fighters are
sponsored by Nike and stuff, why can't I have Reebok? Stupid stuff like
that. It's not about money, it's about respect. I put my life on the
line and they don't appreciate it."
The UFC - I can't wear Reebok which I think is illegal as well.Jackson then revealed that the UFC tried to re-negotiate his contract.
They re-negotiated my contract but I didn't want it. I think that
the UFC don't know how to treat their athletes. They're getting rich off
all of us, we have injuries, surgies, some of these guys fight for
$10,000, $20,000, that ain't right, man.
