- Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer has advised BoxingScene.com that Bernard "The Executioner" Hopkins (52-6-2, 32KOs) will return on March 9th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Showtime will televise. Hopkins will attempt to break his own record as being the oldest fighter to win a world championship. It will mark the first fight for Hopkins, 47-years-old, since losing a split decision to Chad Dawson in April.
Hopkins will face one of three light heavyweight candidates - IBF champion Tavoris Cloud, WBO champion Nathan Cleverly or WBA champion Beibut Shumenov.
"March 9th we have the Barclays Center confirmed for the return of "The Executioner" Bernard Hopkins. It's going to be either Cleverly, Shumenov or Tavoris Cloud. Bernard will attempt to break his own record, which he holds right now as the oldest man to win a world championship. And obviously if he can achieve that again, he will break his own record," Schaefer told BoxingScene.com.
He became the oldest boxer to ever win a world title, when at age 46, he defeated Jean Pascal on May 21, 2011 by a unanimous decision, surpassing the record previously held by George Foreman. He turns 48 on January 15th. http://www.boxingscene.com/bernard-hopkins-returns-on-3-9-barclays-showtime--59200 |
