Best TE in the NFL

Why not? Who is the best TE? We have some great ones in the league right now. I'm not going to add "other" this time because I don't see any other serious contenders. You have guys like Hernandez, Petigrew, Finley and Daniels that are very good, but not on these guys level IMO. Witten might not be having a good year so far but you can't deny he has been elite over the years. Gonzalez might be the GOAT, but is he the best TE in the league today?

Everyone loves to pick their guy. But you know damn well Celek isn't the best TE just like you know Jackson isn't better then Megatron.

To me, it's between Davis and Gronk. Tough choice.

No Antonio Gates? It's honestly hard to choose one of these guys over another. All of them are mismatches against virtually any team. Too fast for linebackers, too big for cornerbacks and safeties. I'll go Gronkowski just because of last year.

Being a great tight end is more than just catching a football, so go ahead and keep names like jimmy graham off the list. Order should go tony G, Jason Witten, gronk then Vernon or gates.

Vernon Davis and it's not even close when we're talking about the individual talent.

If Davis played with Brady and that offense that relies heavily on the TE's he would blow Gronk's numbers out of the water.

Plus Davis is the best blocker out of all those listed. Can't discount important things that don't show up in the box score.

Davis is not. He's a great athlete...usually... ...but he gets outclassed by Jimmy Graham, Gronk, and possibly Aaron too if he didn't have to share looks.

Forgot about Finley & Gates. They both top your boy too. And don't look now, but if Martellus he's it up he'll pass him up too in his new role in NY.

Davis only gets consideration here because he's fast for his size. And the patriots didn't start relying heavily on tight ends until they got a pair of tight ends who could make serious plays. Remember when Ben Watson was the starter? That motherfucker was lucky to get 400 yards a season.

one the one thread you're negging me for pointing out the QB isn't in the same stratosphere as peyton manning and on this thread you're making excuses for vernon davis on the grounds that the QB is no tom brady.

Fact is. since 2009 only one TE has more TD's than Vernon Davis. He already has 3 this year...and this is in a run first offense. It's ridiculous that you guys are in here actually trying not to just name 1,2 or even 3 tight ends better..i can entertain Graham(who i think is a beast) and Gronk..but here you are acting like he is not even in the discussion by pushing him further down the list throwing in names that don't even belong in this thread. Best all around TE in the game. Recieving, blocking, size, speed. Nobody can match up with Vernon Davis. You can't muscle him, you can't keep up with him. NY crowded him last year yet he still found a way to score two TD's in the championship game.

Trying to use Davis's size and speed as an arguement against him is like using Jon Jones reach and size as an arguement against him. It does not change the results and numbers, Davis's are up there with the best in the game since he got sent to the back by Singletary.

So is trying to use Tom Brady's abilities as a means to upsell your own players. You think it's just Tom Brady that got the ball to Gronkowski more than Gronkowski getting open on mismatches? I'll sig bet you that Alex Smith doesn't throw 25 touchdowns in the regular season, let alone 30.

Yeah SF doesn't have the QB or style of play of those other teams, but they also don't have the numerous other options of those teams. And I would think a TE would get plenty of looks in a grind em up offense.

No disrespect to Davis, just think the other guys have a leg up.

I also think Hernandez should be on the list, Is he top 3? Prob not, but he hangs with the rest of the group pretty well. Just needs to stay on the field.
