Quinn Mulhern (18-2 MMA, 3-1 SF) will return to the Strikeforce cage on Sept. 29 for a welterweight bout with veteran Jorge Santiago (25-10 MMA, 2-0 SF).

Mulhern announced the fight via Twitter, though Strikeforce officials haven't made a formal announcement.

If finalized, the bout will be part of "Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Healy" at Power Balance Pavilion in Sacramento, Calif.

The night's main card, including a headliner between lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez and resurgent Pat Healy, airs on Showtime following prelims on Showtime Extreme. It's not clear where Mulhern vs. Santiago would be placed on the lineup.

Since debuting with Strikeforce and suffering a decision loss to Jason High this past year, Mulhern has posted consecutive wins over Danny Davis, David Hulett and Yuri Villefort. Overall, the former KOTC champ and 27-year-old Brazilian jiu-jits black belt is on a 10-1 run that includes seven victories via stoppage.

Santiago, meanwhile, returns to Strikeforce for the first time since 2007, when he won the organization's single-night four-man middleweight tournament with vicious knockout wins over Sean Salmon and Trevor Prangley. He later claimed World Victory Road/Sengoku's middleweight title and then returned to the UFC in 2011. However, he suffered losses to Brian Stann and Demian Maia, was cut, and then signed with Titan Fighting Championship, where he's posted back-to-back first-round wins over Leonardo Pecanha and Justin Guthrie. The longtime middleweight recently announced he would be dropping to welterweight for his next fight.

Extremely happy to see Jorge back with Zuffa in some form. He is still better then most of the guys in his division currently with Zuffa. Hopefully he can make some noise at WW. Santiago vs Marquardt could be a fun future matchup.
