Ricky Hatton vs Juan Manuel Marquez 2010 In Manchester

Ricky Hatton looks set to make his long-awaited return to the action in 2010 to fight Juan Manuel Marquez, according to reports.

There have been question marks over Hatton's future plans after he was brutally knocked out in two rounds by Manny Pacquiao.

Hatton, who was also stopped in 10 rounds by Floyd Mayweather Jnr, had seriously been considering hanging up his gloves and focusing on his promotional work.

However the former two-weight champion could now make his ring return against Marquez at light-welterweight at the City of Manchester Stadium.

Hatton Promotions chief executive Gareth Williams told the Daily Express: "If Ricky does carry on it would be an ideal fight for him to take on Marquez.

"He is an elite fighter, just like Ricky, who will want to challenge the best.

"It makes far more sense to fight Marquez than some of the other names that have been bandied about."

The 36-year Marquez has won 50 of his 56 bouts, including world titles at featherweight, super-featherweight and lightweight.

However his last fight saw him convincingly outclassed and knocked down in the second round by Mayweather before losing on points.

good matchup. Marquez does not bring the pop at the higher weight classes the way Manny did, so hatton should be able to muscle him a bit. both guys need this win.

See I can't agree with that because it's unfair to say he's got no pop above lightweight when he's only fought Floyd Mayweather Jr at 144lb and he just happens to be the best defensive boxer in the world right now.

He was able to knockout Baby Bull and Casamayor at lightweight , so I don't see why he couldn't stop some Jr Welterweight's especially Hatton who's chin has evaporated with all the weight yo-yo dieting and brutal wars.

Makes a lot of sense. Winnable fight for both guys and gives them another name opponent to make some decent dough on

Hatton was on wrestling last week and fuckin looked huge!!! He will probably have to lose 50 pounds to get back to 140. He better really start training if he not only wants to beat Marquez but if he wants to make weight to fight Marquez.

I don't think he'll make the weight because he's really packed on the pound since the Manny defeat. BTW wasn't it funny when Lilian Garcia said his weight was slightly over 140lb lol

Why has Hatton's chin evaporated? I only saw one fight that suggested that, and that was Manny. And from what I have seen Manny's power looks devastating at the higher weight, Not to say Marquez's power is not there, but it does not seem to be on the level of Manny's at the higher weights.

also isn't Fatton always blowing up in weight between fights?

It's a combination of his weight his style which isn't made for longevity and 47 professional fights.


You can see signs of his chin decline in the Collazoand Lazcano fights. It's definitely not as sturdy as it once was.
