What to do IF Reem can't fight JDS.

Most of us on this board suspected Reem of using roids for ages, so this development didn't come as a surprise to me. I only wish that he got busted before the Brock fight.

Campaign underway for Mark Hunt to replace Alistair Overeem at UFC 146

After Alistair Overeem's random pre-fight screening was flagged by the Nevada Athletic Commission for too much testosterone, the search for Overeem's possible replacement at UFC 146 began. With a title on the line in the main event of the all-heavyweight main card, the UFC wouldn't want to scrap the bout. Former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir has already noted his desire to step in against Junior dos Santos, but fans are pushing for an unlikely replacement: Mark Hunt.

In a rundown of possible replacements, MMA Fighting's Mike Chiappetta pointed out that Hunt nearly guarantees an exciting fight.

There are a couple things working in Hunt's favor here For one, he's already on the UFC 146 card. Of course, that doesn't distinguish him from Mir or Velasquez. But you know what does? His style. Hunt basically ensures that the fight will be a slugfest between the big boys, and that's never a bad thing when it comes to fan satisfaction. On the other hand, he's not nearly well known enough to headline a major event, and his 8-7 career record isn't exactly going to send people scrambling to plunk down $55 on pay-per-view. At least you can play up the "Rocky" angle with him.

Hunt, who has fought in Pride, K-1 and Dream before heading to the UFC, then became the subject of a fans' campaign on Twitter. Using the hashtag #RallyforMarkHunt, his fans and friends flooded Twitter to ask UFC executives Dana White and Lorenzo Fertitta to put Hunt into the bout with dos Santos.

Though Hunt does have seven losses, he has won his last three in the UFC. While Mir is more deserving based on records alone, the White has been known to listen to the fans. If Mir's fans want to see him get another shot at the heavyweight title, they should speak up.

I think Fedor would actually work in so many ways. I think it would still sell massive PPVs. It would be a put up or shut up for both sides. It's a chance for Dana to say "I told you so" or pull out the old Pride HL reel and promote the shit out of him.

Hendo, Fedor or Hunt. No one else. Mir needs to fight Cain still, that needs to happen more than that fight being split so a Cain/JDS rematch can happen or worse a JDS mauling of Mir. Thinking back on how Big Nog was abusing him on the feet, JDS would finish him easy. I think Cain would make for the better fight really now that he has had more ample time to return to form.

Cain will get his rematch win 1 more win. Whether that win is over Mir or Bigfoot, doesn't matter. The next shot is his. Cain will get his rematch with JDS. But IMO if you had to pick one fighter currently in the UFC HW division that was most deserving of a title shot, it's Frank Mir. But I agree 100% with Hendo, Fedor or Hunt. I'd much rather WATCH that fight. But I hate Frank Mir so seeing him get blasted wouldn't be too bad.

I guess I missed a major story

Mir being deserving is paper thin. He is on a three fight win streak sure, but look at it. Hugely boring fight with the Ghost of CroCop that in reality was on its way to being a 24-24 draw. A lopsided and yet highly forgettable snoozer over a no show Nelson. And getting rocked and socked by speedy gonzalez Big Nog, it was memorable only because of the miraculous comeback. Shit, the more I think about it, Hunt's three fight win streak is no worse really. A walk off home run on the tuschnar as good as the crocop win but without wasting my time, a decision over Big ben is as good as one over Nelson, but at least Hunt showed all kinds of improvements and that legendary warrior heart, then boom another Walk Off grand slam over Kongo, who was never before KO'd. Just as good as Mir's streak to me, neither beat a top ten fighter.

Cain vs. JDS II

Mir vs. Werdum, Bigfoot vs. Russow, Hunt vs. Nelson.

IMO most deserving is not just simply current streak vs current streak. There are other factors. Mir was ranked atleast 30 spots higher going into his streak then Hunt. Mir is a former UFC Champion. Before his current streak Hunt lost to Sean McCorkle, Mir's loss was to Shane Carwin for the Interim Title. Now don't get me wrong I'm all about this current Hunt surge and would much, much rather see him fight JDS then Mir. But I can't with a straight face make an argument for him being a more deserving candidate. As much as I would like to.

I don't think how a person would fair in the fight should be a factor. I don't think just because Mark Hunt has a better chance of winning(he does) then Frank Mir that it should be a factor. Same goes for Cain. If you are the most deserving of the bunch then you are most deserving. No one really is deserving of the fill in spot, but Frank closest we got IMO.

Deserving at the right time is better here. Cain and Frank have been training for each other to be the legit #1 contender. Hunt is a underdog who can fght anyone, doesn't need training for a specific guy as much as someone like Mir might. A striker first, like the guy JDS was going to be fighting, so he doesn't have to change every little part of what he was doing. I think Cain vs Mir still happening is the right thing to do.
