Muhammad des Afrizal (currently known as Afrizal Cotto), the former PABA featherweight champion and the former Indonesian champion in the superfeatherweight division, collapsed and then underwent brain surgery due to the brain hemorrhage after a 12-round unanimous decision loss to Irvan Barita Marbun for Afrizal’s national title defense on Saturday night (3/31) in Jakarta, Indonesia. “Afrizal walked to his dressing room, and he was checked by the ring doctor, everything seemed to be normal. Several minutes after the medical checking finished, he vomited. Then the doctor instructed to bring him the the nearest hospital immediately. Based on the CT-scan result, Afrizal suffered from brain hemorrhage and he conducted a surgery in his head to remove the blood cloth on Sunday morning,” explained Erick Irawan, the promoter of the fight. The operation went sucessfully, and now Afrizal stays at the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) room of UKI Hospital, Indonesia. His condition is reported stable but still unconscious.
