Jehovah, or Yahweh was not the one true god of the Israelites originally. Most of the events recorded in the early books of the Old Testament were from when Israel was just a part of the greater Canaanite culture and people. In the Bible, it depects God as separate from the Canaanite deities, but the reality is, the head of the Canaanite pantheon of gods, the Zeus of that religion, WAS the god of the Israelites most of their history, and was later merged with a lower god named Yahweh, and merged with some aspects of Ba'al Hadid, another lower god. In fact, God used to have a wife...



Yahweh was one of many gods the Israelites/Canaanite people worshipped. It was only after the Babylonian Exile when elements of Zoroastrianism were infused into the faith that we start to see the "Judaism" form out of the old traditions. Abraham, Noah, Isac, Adam, Moses etc all these figures were based on different older Pagan myths from the related Mesopotamian and Egyptian religions. Ezra, Nehemiah, these people were likely Zoroastrians that brought specific aspects of Judaism from Zoroastrianism on behalf of Israel's Persian rulers to the land. Before Zoroastrian contact, there was no mention of a paradise awaiting God's children.

In Zoroastrianism there was one god, Ahura Mazda. His elements were fused with elements of the El/Yahweh myths to form the final versions of the myth that were crystallized shortly after the supposed time of Christ.

It is a myth that Judaism was this thousands of year old religion before the time of Christ. Christ supposedly lived during second Temple Judaism, and history and archeology shows that Judaism was still a very diverse and partly polytheistic religion for much of the second temple period. The reality is Judaism as seen as anything like what Judaism is seen today is only at most a few hundred years older than Christianity, and modern Judaism didn't become cannonolgically set in stone until after Christianity was formed.

And this doesn't even get into the mythological, Buddhist and Pagan origins of the Christ story. Jesus likely never existed either.

Never understood why the name actually made any difference? If you believe in 1 true God, it doesn't matter what you call him. They all pray to same Being.

They didn't believe in one true god most of their history, that is a new belief and the history of the old testament was changed in relatively recent history. And Zoroastrianism isn't the same either. Two gods, one evil, one good. Not pure monotheism.

Sounds almost like the current acceptance of Satan and God. There are devil worshipers out there. But just like the mythical Gods created by Greeks and Romans it's only done to explain natural events and provide comfort.

There are almost no true Satan worshipers, most of that is made up by Christians. Nearly all satanists are atheists. It is a metaphor. Jews don't believe in Satan, they believe in Ha-satans, or accusers/tests of faith sent by and working for God, the Satan myths came along with Christianity when it combined more with the evil god figure in Zoroastrianism. There are parallels but clear differences too.

Doesn't mean there isn't an extremely small group that does exist and has existed since the idea of Satan or some kind of Evil God.

No continuity in theist satanism is really accepted, and the concept of satan has changed dramatically since the Christ myths first started. Christianity perhaps the first 400 years was almost nothing like it is known today. You'd be surprised.

Exactly how do you define "relatively new"? Because that shit goes back a long, long time. Even with the Mythical Gods there were good and evil.

Also NO, I do not believe that Jesus died for our sins. I find it much more likely that tales of "Jesus" were about more then 1 man.

Basically. There are other metaprocesses to in religions development in mankind as well, but essentially yes.

Many myths start that way. The Exodus could be based on an oral folk memory of the Hyksos who ruled Egypt for a few hundred years but were of essentially Semitic/Canaanite origin, and eventually ran the hell out of there to the Levant region. Those folk memories then became much later the basis for myths in not only Judaism but many different Semitic myths including a Phoenician myth we also know about.
