| http://mmaweekly.com/chad-griggs-latest-strikeforce-heavyweight-moving-to-the-ufcThe migration of former Strikeforce heavyweights to the UFC continues as Chad Griggs has signed a new deal to move over to the UFC in 2012. Sources close to the fighter confirmed to MMAWeekly.com on Tuesday that Griggs will move to the UFC and begin fighting there in the new year. Chad Griggs originally came to Strikeforce as an opponent for highly touted prospect Bobby Lashley. Most expected that he was brought in as a sacrificial lamb for Lashley, who was a fast rising star after his time spent in the pro wrestling world and then transitioned into the fight game. Griggs was anything but a sacrifice however. He tired out and then pummeled Lashley to win by TKO when his opponent couldn’t continue after the second round. Griggs returned a few months later and put away another prospect in Gian Villante before defeating Valentijn Overeem in brutal fashion during the alternate rounds of the Strikeofrce Heavyweight Grand Prix. Now the Arizona firefighter will make his move to the UFC where he’ll try to keep his winning streak alive against a new crop of heavyweight opponents. There has been no date for his debut, but Griggs is expected to end up on one of the UFC cards during the first part of 2012. | |

| Griggs vs Meathead sounds like a fun fight, or maybe Pat Barry? | |

| Meat would fuck him up but since he is off a loss I don't think they'd do that. Griggs is winning right now. | |

I don't think a loss to Meat would be all that bad for Griggs. With his current streak he can afford that loss. Why not give him another chance at an upset win?

| Have Griggs winning ways hidden an otherwise obvious truth? That he is a lhw? | |

| He is probably better as a small HW than a LHW, speed wise. | |

Well if you compare the LHW division to the HW division you can understand why Griggs would stay at HW. Seems like he is more likely to keep a roster spot at HW. Plus you always get an extra fight after losing if you drop a weight class. Instead of getting cut, you make the cut and all is good. It's a nice backup plan.

| Still on the meat truck? Dude made his pro debut in the UFC in 2009 and only lost his first fight to a ten year veteran who has been in the UFC since 2006. It was a close fight. Meathead is the real deal. I know you want to write him off because he came from tuf, but take the blinders off. Him and Schaub are both legit. | |

| You said he would win the fight, now the experience gap matters. It was not a close fight. He was outstruck throughout the fight against an extremely passive, and crappy looking Kongo and then Kongo took it to the mat and dominated. It was all Kongo except for maybe one round that lacked signifcant activity from either fighter..If Kongo has taken it to the ground sooner it would have likely not gone the distance. You think i don't think he's legit because he was on TUF, while i think people are looking to jump on the "they are legit" badwagon because they watched them on TUF. Once TUF is over, i'm not unwilling to give fighters their due once they get out of the world of exhibition bouts and doing what producers tell them. I've priased even more recent TUF alum than those two and i don't even bother watching the show pretty much since the Evans/Page, Kimbo fiasco of a season ruined TUF...i'm just not impressed with Schaub or Mitrione. If people treated them for what they were, exciting brawlers..then i would keep my mouth shut because they are fun to watch..but i doubt Mitrione will ever reach the status of even somebody like Chieck Kongo in his current form, definitely not the hyped up version of a few years ago. Schaub has a little more upside but he'll never be anything more than middle of the pack. | |

| I think you're fundamentally blind to specific tangible attributes both fighters possess that makes them extremely dangerous with significant upside. The Kongo Meat fight was pretty technical in terms of foot movement, fakes and feints. I did pick Meat to win, but his performance proves that he is still developing, which again is just fine for someone who made his pro debut after the creation of ninjasplace. His rate of skill acquisition, athleticism, fight IQ and speed means he will be a serious fighter for a long time to come. HW's prospect cupboard is bare. There is Meat in there though.
I thought Kongo looked better in that fight too.
