A knockdown, drag-out fight between Dan Henderson and Mauricio "Shogun" Rua has unsurprisingly netted the longest medical suspensions arising from UFC 139.
MMAjunkie.com (
www.mmajunkie.com) recently requested and today received a list of medical suspensions for UFC 139 from the California State Athletic Commission.
UFC 139 took place this past Saturday, Nov. 19, at HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif. The night's main card aired on pay-per-view, and the preliminary card aired on Spike TV and streamed on Facebook.
Henderson's decision win over Rua was hailed as one of the top-three fights in UFC history by the promotion's president, Dana White, though the immediate toll of the bout was apparent when both competitors were immediately shuffled off to the hospital at the conclusion of the pay-per-view headliner.
An injury to Henderson's right thumb initially disclosed by his business partner was today confirmed by the CSAC. Henderson is suspended 180 days with 180 days no contact for a possible fracture, though he can be cleared earlier with a doctor's permission. Additionally, he is suspended 60 days with 60 days no contact for a "hard bout."
Rua appeared to receive the worst of the damage taken in the fight, and his suspension backs that observation. He is suspended 180 days with 180 days no contact for possible facial and skull fractures as well as 45 days with 30 days no contact for a "hard bout" and 60 days with 60 days no contact for an eyebrow laceration.
