| 3 pretty good fights,
Bezerra vs Evans got the card off to a real good start. Bezerra has actually been making some noise on recent Bellator undercards. But Evans, at 13-9 was taking it to the 11-1 Bezerra. a good solid jab from Evans had Bezerra's right eye in bad shape early. Bezerra takes the fight to the ground(I think because he was not liking the results of the standup) but a a guillotine attempt from bezerra leads to an Evans slam and now Evans has top position. evans is laying some pretty good wood from top. Bezerra from bottom is continuing to slap on sub attempts, getting close on a couple occassions, though he does get slammed hard again. Finally, Bezerra is able to find a sub that sticks, a heel hook that looked to blow out Evans knee.
Bezerra is beat up, his eye in bad shape and looking pretty worn out. A real good rd primarily fought on the ground.
skip the Hawk vs Hollet fight, nothing to see here.
Shlemenko vs Vianna
3 rnds, decent action, never really got going as Vianna refused to open up, Shlemenko pushed fwd, was pretty aggressive, but Vianna did not give him much to work with. Vianna did land a couple counters, but schlemenko just has too good a chin.
easy W for the russian setting up a rematch with Lombard. MMA fans that aren't interested in this fight should know better.
Lima vs Saunders.
The big nasty headkicks that put Saunders opponents on the run early in the previous 2 rnds of this tourney were much less effective here. Saunders trying to push lima against the fence, I think in part cause he didn't like the taste of Lima's power. Saunders does get top control late in the first, and lands some nice elbows.
2nd rnd. Lima, like in his last fight, lands a big heavy right hand counter that drops Suanders, he quickly pounces, fight over a minute and a half into the 2nd. so for all those who were loving Lima pre tourney(pretty sure OU was in on this, and he has been on a nice roll of late), despite an uninspiring opening rnd fight, they have been proven justified in their love.
A nice size crowd up there in Ontario, not raucous, but #'s wise it was one of Bellator's better efforts.
Good card too, had higher expectations for the shlemenko fight, but Im expecting a lot from this guy on a fight in fight out basis.
Was also thinking Saunders would bring more, but as I noted in another thread, he seemed to have a huge physical adv in the early rnds, and while he was still the bigger guy here, it was not near the mismatch of the earlier fights. Lima looks to be a very competent counter puncher with good power. I just hope he has good enough takedown defense to exploit the striking adv he will enjoy over Askren.

| I have been loving Lima since seeing his last 3 or so MFC fights. I thought he was better then a good majority of UFC WW and I remember having him on a VS thread against Amir, who I think Lima would work over. One of my favorite non UFC fighters for sure. Love me some Lima. | |

| Lima should provide a nice matchup for Askren with his BJJ. Hopefully its good enough to threaten and get him back to his feet and he isn't laid on for 5 rounds | |

I'm hoping Lima lands a power shot and then sinks in a nice choke. I'm so ready for Asken to go down.

| "Well like I said before. I felt like I was fighting my shadow. Losing to a very tough and skilled opponent in Douglas Lima doesn't feel like a real loss. He is my brother and teammate at American Top Team and it was an honor to goto battle with him. I said we were gonna goto war and may the best man win. He was the better man tonight, & I have no regrets. I have said it since day one. Win, Lose, or Draw I come to fight! I am an aggressive fighter and I come to scrap. If I get caught trying to finish the fight then so be it. If I'm gonna lose that's how I wanna go out." - Ben Saunders, after losing his Bellator bout against Douglas Lima | |
