UFC 137 officially draws 10,313 attendance and $3.9 million gate

This past month's UFC 137 event officially drew a 10,313 attendance figure and a $3,900,650 live gate.


UFC 137 took place Oct. 29 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas with a Nick Diaz vs. B.J. Penn pay-per-view headliner.


Of the 21 events the UFC has held to date at the Sin City venue, the gate figure ranks third all time.


Nevada State Athletic Commission Executive Director Keith Kizer today emailed the officials figures to MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).


Of the 10,313 attendees, 8,179 paid for tickets, and 2,134 received
complimentary admission. Additionally, 409 tickets went unsold, though
UFC officials announced the show as a sellout. That produces an average
paid ticket price of $476.91.


In addition to the actual event, Mandalay Bay hosted a closed-circuit
feed of UFC 137. The event drew 723 attendees (523 paid) for a gate of
$26,150.


The Mandalay Bay Events Center's all-time top UFC gates as compiled by MMAjunkie.com include:

1. UFC 100 (Lesnar vs. Mir II): $5,128,490 gate (10,871 attendance)
   
2. UFC 79 (St-Pierre vs. Hughes III): $4,994,000 (11,075)
   
3. UFC 137 (Penn vs. Diaz): $3,900,650 (10,313)
   
4. UFC 126 (Silva vs. Belfort): $3,600,000 (10,893)
   
5. UFC 57 (Liddell vs. Couture III): $3,382,400 (11,000)
   

UFC 137 initially was expected to feature a headliner between UFC
welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre and Diaz. However, Diaz was
pulled from the card when he no-showed a pair of pre-event press
conference, and he ultimately was booked for the event's co-headliner
against Penn. But when St-Pierre suffered a knee injury and was forced
out of a fight with replacement Carlos Condit, Diaz returned to the
main-event slot and scored a unanimous-decision victory. He now meets
St-Pierre in a February title fight.

I thought that place looked a little bare. Which was surprising cause UFC always seems to pack it in.

400 is nothing. Plus the UFC gives away tickets to every event. It's always some number over 1,000. This is nothing IMO

Im not saying it's a huge story, but I thought I saw some empty seats. which I never see at UFC events.

Well looking at the numbers for the venue it doesn't appear to be any less full then other cards at the same venue. Only 500 less people then Mir-Lesnar II.

500 less is 5%, if 500 of those 2100 comps didn't show, that's 10%. Fairly significant.

But again, Im not saying it's big news. Just thought I saw empty seats, which is odd at a ufc event.

They were all full, this is just another example of blatant Diaz hating and I will not stand for it.
