http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2011/9/29/2456708/ufc-luiz-banha-cane-dropping-to-middleweight-mma-news

"Banha will drop to the middle weight. It is
something that, in my point of view, will take some time for him to get
used to this new division, so I don’t wanna rush anything to make sure
he’s comfortable fighting in this new weight class", tells,
guaranteeing that the change isn’t related to the defeat in Rio de
Janeiro.

"What happened is a part of the fight. I don’t
believe this weight drop has anything to do with it, but it’s a wish he
has for a long time, and maybe it’ll bring a positive result. It’s
something that usually happens in the industry, keep dropping the
weight more and more. He wanna do it and I support him, so let’s do it
the best way we can. With no rush", explains.

I don't think so BBC, he looks like he could drop to MW and still be effective. he looks kinda flabby at 205

Yeah he needed to make this move, hopefully he does it the right way.

He was a loss away from being cut, probably should've been already anyway. I guess that makes this necessary

You know the rule. You get 1 more chance if you agree to shed the lbs.

yup, he was def a little flabby at 205. And while I don't know if he'll ever get into the title mix at 185, there was no chance of him doing so at lhwy.

Would have liked to have seen him done this a couple years ago, but at 30, he's still young enough to make it worthwhile.

Remember when Cane was in everyone's top 10 at LHW and a legit contender in the division? I'm sure there are multiple threads on this forum during the early days.

Not mine, I thought Soku's loss to Cane was a bad one.

You never had him in the top 10? Ever? You would be the only person.

Man, Cane's list of opponents prior to entering the UFC is as bad as it gets. Of his 8 W's only one had a winning record, and about 4 of em never won a fight.

Not really relevant, way old for sure, but I find minor show details like this interesting.

Who knows, I may have get swept up in some Cane hype, maybe after he shellacked Cantwell, but I remember taking heat when I called Soku's loss a bad one.

I also benefit from not always contributing to top tens. And this is a good example as to why I do not. Guy looks fairly impressive in the UFC, and he would automatically get the nod over a guy ripping through the minor circuit, it's not even debateable. Then the minor circuit guy gets a chance in the UFC and busts the aforementioned up.

If anyone had put snake ahead of Cane in a ranking as of oct 2009, they would have been given a negative 50 on their rep.
