Catching Hell Empty
PostSubject: Catching Hell   Catching Hell EmptyWed Sep 28, 2011 12:42 pm

Anyone watch the ESPN Catching Hell doc last night?

The relationship between Chicago Cubs fans and Steve Bartman following Game 6 of the 2003 National League Championship Series.

It was pretty good, but intensely interesting.

Catching Hell Empty

I watched it late last night.

Its a real shame. We're talking about 8 runs here. Gonzalez error was much more of a should be sure thing than a consistantly shit left fielder reaching into the stands to catch a foul ball. There is no ifs regarding that play..Gonzalez got a routine double play, he was one of the best fielding short stops in the game and he boots it, he choked...Buckner was crucified for choking..Gonzalez non-play broke the levee, that was when the inning should have been over with the lead in tact. Bartman's interference only made the weak minded Cubs start feeling sorry for themselves when no real damage was done and when most of them had not even seen what happened.

Also, Mark Prior had been over extended, which as a Giants fan i know is the Dusty Baker special..he was over 112 pitches before any shit begin to hit the fan and while he's obviously lost his composure and can't get the ball to the catcher anymore, he leaves him in? Dusty Baker as a result of working that kid to the bone that season probably contributed to Prior's inujury problems that made him irrelevant. Prior had so many games that year where he would throw over 130 pitches. Same can probably be said for Kerry Wood.

I hate when fans interfere with plays, what that stupid brat did to the Baltimore Orioles was a true detriment..fact is, it was still 2 outs, 3-0 and the Cubs showed why they werent a world series caliber team and the Marlins showed why they were.

Just the observation of a large group like that given the gravity of all circumstances surrounding the team, the game, the play and the aftermath and how the focal point is burned down to one guy and then window into his experience that night and after... I think incredible is good word to describe it, and that doesn't mean good because I found the show to be depressing, just a compelling and interesting show in itself though.

I really enjoyed the special and thought it was very good, and at the same time depressing. I think it effectively shows how irrational and sick the backlash on Bartman(and Buckner) was.
