| Every decade has had one rock group that defined that decade:
60's - The Beatles 70's - Led Zeppelin 80's - Metallica 90's - Nirvana 00's - ?
I can't think of one group that stands out for this decade. Can you? Maybe you younger whippersnappers are more in touch with newer rock music than me.

| I don't think there is a rock group out there that defines this decade. I do think Radiohead has been the best rock group in the world since the mid-90s though | |

| This thread has nothing to do with your favorite rock bands. It has to do with the most popular or influential band of the decade. Sadly, I think Farmer is right. Linkin Park could be a close second though. Bad decade for music. | |

| It hasn't been a bad decade for music unless you listen to mainstream crap | |

| why does there have to be 1 band that defines a decade?... the way that I look at it is if you can narrow a decade down to one band that should indicate that decade is pretty weak in it self..
I have said this many times .. this decade will be known for the internet's influence on music .. the choices are endless .. you can find the the exact style of music that you want if you just gave the time and find it.. yeah, if you are listening to the radio and what the entertainment companies are feeding you, then this decade blows.. but with the internet you can find exactly what you want to hear, so in a sense this could be the best decade if you wanted it to be...
and no.. it is not Nickelback .. they make this decade look like shit..
These are all mainstream bands that are leagues better than Nickelback... take your pick if you must have one winner:
Radiohead The Strokes The White Stripes Chilli Peppers Queens of the Stone Age Incubus Muse The Flaming Lips
This wouldn't be close to my list of bands for this decade though..

| What really defined this decade is Rock Band and Guitar Hero. | |

| Nirvana defines this decade as well, as it has been living in the 90s shadow. Or as farmer said, it's horrid weak clone, Nickelback.
ALT ROCK IS NEITHER GOOD NOR ALTERNATIVE ANYMORE AMERICA.

| ok would anyone here say they like Nickelback? Just curious because if no one here likes them and i literally dont know anyone who is like "yea nickleback is fucking sick they're my favorite band" then how are they the major rock band of my decade/generation? Just cause mtv or pop radio stations play their songs doesn't mean they are the best, they are far from it. | |

| Nickelback is popular but years from now no one on the face of the Earth is going to be saying anything along the lines of "The 2000s belonged to Nickelback" or "Wow, Nickelback was really the defining band of the 2000s" | |

Sure they will. America is dumber now than at any point in its history in terms of the culture people attach themselves to.
