Anthony Pettis was the guy next in line but Clay Guida ruined that. Jim Miller was going to get the next shot even though he is yet to get a victory over a top 10 guy. Those plans were then dashed by Ben Henderson. Henderson doesn't deserve a shot as he lost to Anthony Pettis just last December. So what happens next after Edgar-Maynard 3?

It's pretty simple have Guida vs. Bendo for the next title shot. If Siver and Melvin win their next bouts have them fight for following title shot.

As it stand now though the UFC is going to fast track Guida to the title or send over Gilbert.

Just some food for thought...how bad would BJ beat Guida, Bendon, or Melvin if he were to face them...I see him destroying them.

BJ Penn destroys anyone not named Frankie Edgar or Gray Maynard pretty easy in the UFC. I think Gilbert Melendez is the dark horse. Dana should send him over as I think he would easily be the best beside the main 2 and BJ.

question. what top 10 guy ,besides miller, has henderson beaten. what top 10 guy has pettis ever beaten. how bout guida or melvin? either the ufc lws are highly underated and should be moved up futher up the rankings or other lws like crusher/alvarez/aoki and gil are the ones overated and shouldnt be up so high and make room for the others mentioned to move up the spots.

guida/henderson make sense for next title shot. dont think bj will drop down again but yes, he would destroy guida and guillard easily. bendo would give him a fight but would lose.as for gil jumping ship, dont think so yet. one top contender first then title shot by next summer after his contract is up. also guys like guillard/siver and cerrone shouldnt be even be mentioned for a title shot anytime soon until they beat or at least fight someone like miller/guida/bendo or even pettis. remember too, guillard declined a fight kenny and instead took on roller earlier this year after claimin he only wanted to fight title contenders. now he is fighting lauzon.

I voted BJ drops down but I don't think he'll drop back down untill he loses again at WW and I think he's gonna beat Condit. But at some point he's gonna go back down

BJ wouldn't want much to do with Bendo in a 5 round fight. Cardio folks

BJ's gas tank hasn't been a problem in a long time, it's wasn't a problem with Frankie or Fitch.

He got buried in the 3rd round against Fitch and Frankie kicked his ass all over the cage so I'm not sure about that

Frankie-BJs first fight was terrible. Edgar didn't push the pace nearly as much and neither of them landed a damn punch the last 3 rounds. They both looked very blah. He neutered Diego in the first round and Diego is also tailor made for BJ, and Kenny didn't do anything except hold him while Keith yelled shoulder pressure from outside the cage. I don't expect him to gas that badly when guys don't actually do anything

Well I still can't comment on BJ vs Frankie 2 cause I still haven't seen it, won't ever see it, that fight doesn't exist to me.

Just because he lost those fights doesn't mean his cardio was the problem, it wasn't a problem in those fights. Fitch and Frankie may have outworked him but he didn't gass out.

I wouldn't feel comfortable with BJ getting an automatic shot at the LW tittle with all the current contenders

He definitely gassed against Fitch. Not that I blame him, he did some heavy grappling with a big dude for 2 rounds, but BJ has a pretty sick guard and when Fitch took him down at the beginning of the 3rd he didn't attempt a single sweep or submission the whole round. He just sat there in closed guard while Fitch pounded him to the point where there was discussion of a 10-8 round. I think it was pretty clear the gas tank was on E

Well your leaving out that he was penned up against the cage, no one pulls off subs or sweeps when their smashed against the cage. Maybe I'm giving Fitch too much credit

I don't think any of them really deserve a shot and I would have no problem if they did give BJ the shot if Maynard were to beat Edgar. I would like to see Gilbert cross over first as my favoured option though.
