| I believe the guy to be a very unique fighter, and I don't mean his fighting style per se, but instead his background, or better yet his mindset.
He's certainly not a fight hard, party hard type like Chuck was, def doesn't seem like a roid type, or even an athlete type fighter like I see so many US fighters to be, doesn't have that brawler attitude like many of the chute box brazilian guys did, nor is he a supremely talented guy like Spider. Though I do not doubt that he works as hard as anyone in the sport, I don't consider him an all business type fighter.
Perhaos it is his Japanese heritage that gives him more of a subdued personality, and maybe he in many ways resemble's the japanese fighters that we do not see as much here in the states. So maybe he is not so different, but he is on pace to surpass, perhaps sooner then later, all of the japanese fighters who have preceded him in the sport in terms of accomplishments. So he seperates himself here as well.
But more then any current fighter Lyoto strikes me as a guy who is more immersed, physcially, mentally and spiritually in the sport then any of his contemporaries. And that imo, is what seperates him from all of the other top fighters in the game today. And not to say he's better then any of those guys, but merely interms of wholly being involved in the artistry of the fight game, I think no one has an edge on Lyoto.

j/k... the guy is a Samurai. He's Japanese-Brazilian, he's been training in various martial arts since age three. He looks exactly like Ryu. He's called The Dragon. His main style is karate. He's impossible to hit. The guy was born to fight.
I don't know why you think he's not supremely talented. I think he's the most talented fighter in the world besides Fedor. Anderson may win in more spectacular fashion, but Machida is just as dominant over his opponents if not more so. No one in the UFC has been able to lay a finger on him.

| My hunch is that Anderson would beat him, but Lyoto has never been touched so I don't know why I would go against him. | |

Im not trying to say he's not talented, he's very talented, but as far as pure natural talent, I don't see him being on Silva's level. I would say he is the more skilled fighter.

| Anderson has admitted that Lyoto gets the better of him in sparring. They are both true martial artists that have been training various arts their whole life. | |

| Lyota is seemingly an enigma, but if you know the history of the Japanese people as well as that of those who immigrated from Japan it makes sense. His Japanese mindset makes him a counterpuncher, but his ability to attack shows his Brazilian environment. He is an opponent, I would truly not be sure how to gameplan for, but I do know that unless you have an iron chin and heavy hands you best plan on taking the fight to the ground. If I had to choose an opponent other than Silva, I would probably go with Dan Henderson or give Shad another shot, with emphasis on getting the fight to the ground. | |
