Really good, hard fought, fight. Nice back and forth, Zbik controlled the early rnds, Chavez the later.
Chavez won a majority decision(one judge had it even), even though Zbik landed WAY more punches. Personally I was hedging more towards Zbik throughout the fight. Though a much smaller guy in the ring(165lbs to chavez's 180) he was the more chiseled guy, and he was landing good crisp hard punches for most of the fight. Commentators and apparently the judges thought Chavez was landing the much harder punches, but there was not much evidence of it. Zbik never went down, and was never really in trouble of going down. I do agree Chavez was probably the harder puncher(bigger guy and Zbik ad only 10 ko's in 30 fights coming in) but did it overcome the much higher land rate of Zbik? Not so much imo.
Lederman gave Chavez the 2nd which I though was crazy talk, and the 12th which I thought zbik also won fairly clearly.
(in the twelth chavez gassed a bit, and lent over, allowing Zbik to hold his head, throughout the twelth to a higher extent then throughout the fight, but it happened alot, and had been going on throughout the fight. conversely chavez punched low/near low, quite often, so all that evened out imo,
Zbik showed obvious signs of the body work Chavez had worked for for 11 rnds, but the landed the majority of the clean shots here in the 12th. And he did this for the previous 11 rnds also).
Chavez's body work was excellent, was very much in the tradition of his father. and was def a big part in wearing Zbik down. I would have liked to see him going upstairs a bit more, especially late, I wonder if he could have stopped him if he did.
Both guys fought tough, and I'd be interested in seeing each again. I think chavez will benefit greatly from this fight as I think it will toughen him up both mentally and physically. Still pretty young he def needs more time to develop b4 a matchup with Sergio, who was in attendance.
