http://mmajunkie.com/news/23859/reminder-dream-fight-for-japan-debuts-tonight-on-hdnet-at-9-p-m-et.mmaAs a reminder, the first television broadcast of "DREAM: Fight for Japan" airs tonight on HDNet.
The all-high-definition cable channel's taped presentation of the May 29 show begins at 10 p.m. ET (7 p.m. PT).
The event, which was DREAM's first in half a year, took place at Saitama
Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. The event kicked off the organization's
eight-man Japan bantamweight grand prix, and notable Shinya Aoki took on
fellow welterweight Rich Clementi.
The event served as a fundraiser following the earthquakes and tsunami
that presented a national disaster to the island nation. Much of the
Japanese MMA scene had been put on hold since the March tragedy.
With the country's top MMA promotions facing uncertainty even before the
natural disaster, DREAM still managed to pull of a star-studded show.
In addition to Aoki, notables such as Takeshi Inoue, Caol Uno and
Joachim Hansen also competed on the card.
The grand prix, though, took center stage. The first two rounds of the
tourney took place at the event, and the finalists now meet at DREAM.17
on July 16, which also features a third-place fight between the two
eliminated semifinalists.
HDNet often airs DREAM events live, but the organization's late planning
and international-business issues made only a taped broadcast possible.
