| I saw the first two episodes. Not bad but I've heard the usual complaints about the story moving way too slow to keep a bunch of viewers. Rubicon had the same problem | |

| Really starting to notice glaring flaws in this show. Breaking Bad/Wire category it is absolutely not. | |

| So is it worth checking out or not ?
My mate seemed to enjoy the original from Scandinavia.

| some people really like it but there are some issues, especially after doing five seasons of The Wire and three of Breaking Bad that really stick out. Some elements and performances that were quite moving though. | |

| The stuff examining how "The Killing" effects the victim's family was by far the best part. The mother of the victim put in a stone cold awesome performance and it really felt real. Without ruining anything, the interaction between the family after the death in the first half or so of the season is where the show shines. But the police work side of it seemed a bit ridiculous at times and was full of a bunch of red herrings and scoobydo tangents. Most of the first season was spent unmasking false monsters instead of building a truly intriguing "who done it". Annoying "shocking" twists at the end of every episode that lead to nothing in the opening five minutes of the next. Interestingly, 3 episodes from the end there is a weird episode where the two detectives are off doing something else, and almost none of the main plotlines are examined at all, and it ends up being one of the best ones as the personal interaction about the characters back stories really played well in some awesome scenes.
I think the Killing was extremely well acted and the dialogue not all that bad, however there were some moments where you feel like the writers don't trust the viewer so they have to painstakingly explain every nuance directly with unrealistic conversations. They should have trusted the viewer a bit more. This is a show I think could improve though as its heart was in the right place. They just need to get the formula right.
The show invites "The Wire" comparisons early on, but then fails to live up to those expectations. So being influenced by "The Wire" both helps and hurts the show. | |
