| Perhaps it's because Carwin doesn't seem to have thick neck muscles anymore ? |

That might be PART of it. But sure as hell isn't all of it.

| The guy did lose 30 lbs and your face loses some of that weight. I would imagine there is some fat around the skull that builds up also. Not to mention.....What Wolf said. | |

| I'm not so sure this helps him. His size and strength was his biggest advantage. If he can still bully people than the speed increase will be very very helpful, but ultimately he needs to improve his striking a great deal to beat JDS or win with just wrestling. | |

| I don't think he loses much power. He gains speed and endurance with this. His power will be similar and it might even increase his explosiveness. | |

| So he was walking into the cage at 280, or is that what he ballooned up to with his time away working his way back, I think we just see them so much in the cage that when we see them out it looks different, in another video I thought he looked way smaller as well. | |

| News flash - the number of HW's who dominated because of being 280 monsters is both numerically less than the fingers on your left hand even if you lost a few digits in a horrific machine shop accident and that same list is full of dudes who had the shit kicked out of them by faster, more agile mid sized HW's and that same list also probably only exists because various factors kept these fighters from fighting the best in the sport during their runs. Sylvia and Lesnar would have lost at any and all points to Cain or Fedor and neither were close to the best HW at the time.
The "OMFG SIZE MATTERS" refrain during the Lesnar run was inflated nonsense and I've been saying that. The two highest ranked HW's in the UFC are under 245, the lineal champ is under 245, and the current Strikeforce champ spent most of his career at LHW.
It's going to take a significant number of major athletes to change the complexion of the division and that is still many many years away if it is coming at all.
The "Super LHW" always has and for the foreseeable future will dominate the HW division.

| Don't count out the larger HWs.
Brock took out several very good HWs and his sie had a lot to do with it.
The SF Champ sure looks like he cares about size. He did put on 60 pounds of pure muscle to go from top 20 LHW to top 5 HW.
Lets not forget the pounding the goat took from the giant they call Big Foot.
Don't kid yourself size does matter, but it isn't everything.

Don't kid yourself size does matter, but it isn't everything. Of course it matters and I never said it didn't, but the fact remains mid sized HW's have dominated and have dominated for a reason. The fact also remains that the 280 pound HW will not any time soon be inheriting the earth. Antonio Silva may end up claiming the title in the end for a while but he is the exception, not the rule.

The biggest reason mid sized HWs have ruled is because the XL athletes across the world aren't doing MMA & wrestling. They're linemen & basketball players. The lower level weight clases have gotten some elite athletes.

| Hopefully the reduction in body mass is the result of serious work on his conditioning. He can still hit hard enough to KO anyone, like almost every other HW. Being able to breath is gonna do nothing but help that. | |

| Carwin has KO power to spare. I literally am concerned he may kill someone in the Octagon with his death hams. | |

I don't know Tim, Carwin is pretty vulnerable standing up, Dos Santos striking is superior and he packs a hefty punch. |

| Dos Santos can be hit. CC and Nelson hit him many times. | |

True. I am not writing Carwin off, his power is a serious game changer, but Dos Santos is the more technically sound striker. |

| That is true but the issue is his defense, which isn't great. Dos Santos is lucky he survived the Nelson and CC fights as he was vulnerable to CC's left hook and Nelson's overhand right, their most dangerous punches.
Carwin is more live than people think.
