KJ Noons will meet Jorge Masvidal in a battle of lightweight contenders at Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum on June 18. Noons confirmed the news, which was first reported by MMA Junkie, to MMA Fighting on Wednesday.

Noons (9-2), the former EliteXC lightweight champion, is coming off a welterweight title loss to Nick Diaz in October. Prior to the loss, Noons had won his last six fights in a row.

Masvidal (21-6) won his Strikeforce debut in March, defeating Billy Evangelista via unanimous decision. The American Top Team veteran has also fought for BodogFight, Shark Fights and Bellator.

The June 18 card, which is headlined by Alistair Overeem vs. Fabricio Werdum, will be televised on Showtime. The TV card is already set, and Noons was unclear where or if his fight would televised.

And Carano, and Wilcox JZ. They need to shelf those until the next SF main card. They cannot let any of those fights go unseen on TV.

I'm sure some of them will make the PPV card.

If Reem/griggs was bumped for Wilcox/Masvidal or kennedy/Lawler, this would be worth 55$ to me.

but this is not a ppv, correct? but I think this card is worthy of a ppv as is. The July card which is set to be a ppv is still lacking imo. Kennedy vs Lawler and Jacare vs whomever are the type of fights that are needed for the ppv.

Correct, this is not the PPV card.

Thought they already shot down that July PPV idea. SF doesn't need to be fucking around with PPVs, it wouldn't sell

I'm pretty sure the PPV deal is a go with Hendo vs Fedor.

Hold the ppv till the gp finals. Throw Fedor vs Werdum on there. Perhaps start a GP for LW on that card. That's a ppv.

The fedor Hendo card? as currently constructed is lacking.



I wonder if, with the merger, the many bars that show UFC ppv's, will also be compelled by Zuffa to show a SF ppv.

SF Dallas is building some nice depth to this card.

June 18th card is PPV worthy but it's too late in the game to make it one, I'll take it for free, but I want to see all those fights.

I keep hoping they announce a internet stream on mmafighting.com or showtime.com or something for the prelims.

No chance you think it gets on Facebook? If not I'd say there'd be a strong possiblility for SF.com, at worst unaired replays of the fights.

Do you think Facebook's deal is with the UFC or just Zuffa and they'd make room for SF? I know obviously the deal has to be with Zuffa, but the UFC name is obviously the strongest.

I guess the PPV idea was scrapped. The latest stuff I see says the card will be on Showtime.

I guess the main event alone would make it, but overall it'd be a weak PPV card.

I am going to enjoy it in person though.

That's comparable to some UFC PPVs

I'd say most UFC has a top fight between champs or people in the top 5 the at least 1 or 2 more fights with top 10 types then a few entertaining fights.

This card we get a legit main event and not much else when you talk top tier.
