| http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=6479279WASHINGTON -- The Justice Department wants to know why the NCAA doesn't have a college football playoff system and says there are "serious questions" about whether the current format to determine a national champion complies with antitrust laws. Critics who have urged the department to investigate the Bowl Championship Series contend it unfairly gives some schools preferential access to the title championship game and top-tier end-of-season bowls. In a letter this week, the department's antitrust chief, Christine Varney, asked NCAA president Mark Emmert why a playoff system isn't used in football, unlike in other sports; what steps the NCAA has taken to create one; and whether Emmert thinks there are aspects of the BCS system that don't serve the interest of fans, schools and players. | |

| I'm still very against most playoff formats proposed by fans and media. I hate the idea of 16 or more teams in a playoff. IMO if they ever implemented a playoff system in football, the smaller the better. I'm in favor of 4 teams or the +1 scenario. I don't think any team that finishes the season ranked outside the top 10 deserves a chance to win the title, no matter how well that team is playing at the time. I would actually love a 6 team playoff with the top 2 teams getting rewarded with a bye. I have no problem listening to the #7 or 8 ranked teams bitch about not getting a chance at the title. The regular season in college football is a beautiful thing. | |

You're fucking crazy Kings! Obama is doing big things here and he is keeping his promise to me. He said he would change college football and the BCS system if he could change anything in sports on MNF the game before Election Day. That's the only reason I voted for Obama over McCain. 4 more years!!!!! Domecrats and Republicans both lie, so when one guy is gonna give me what I want in sports he has my vote!

| Yeah? then the NCAA should decide if they want to go for more money and try to fix something that aint broke or stay with their current system. It's none of the federal governments fucking business and it's not what they get tax dollars to worry about.
The antitrust shit is crap. Amatuer football fans tears when they feel their favorite school(a lot of times one they are not alumni to) is dissed is not enough to move what they are selling.

You honestly think the BCS system is fair? It is all about money and schools get screwed every year. Not to mention a playoff would be the shit. The feds need to step in and do something because there is alot of money involved.

Amatuer football fans tears when they feel their favorite school(a lot of times one they are not alumni to) is dissed is not enough to move what they are selling. so u think it is only the alumni and not the heads of the institution who get bent when their school gets dissed? And u can say "amateur" all u want, but this is a billion $$$ business that has far reaching influence. And of coarse there is this business here, which may or may not have something to do with the OP. the scandalous behavior by Junker and others on the Fiesta Bowl payroll that included, but wasn't limited to: funneling money to politicians through bowl employees; coaching witnesses, and altering documents during the investigation that followed; taking junkets to college football games with politicians and their families -- all on the bowl's dime. On page 210 is a charge that the bowl footed the $33,188 bill for Junker's 50th birthday party, a four-day bacchanal in Pebble Beach that had, according to one attendee, "absolutely no business purpose." The investigation that brought down one of the most powerful figures in college football came on the heels of a previous investigation, which the Fiesta Bowl was forced to conduct in December 2009. That investigation came in response to allegations in The Arizona Republic that Fiesta Bowl employees were regularly reimbursed for making contributions to state and local politicians -- a felony. College football and basketball are the best. I love the NFL also but thats it. NBA and MLB suck! The NBA is okay with me, but not a must watch. I live in a college town.

| Thats cool beast..i like some amatuer stuff. Like amatuer porn for example, i like minature golf and karaoke...but i can only care for collegiate sports for certain players that will be going...you guessed it..PRO. Other than that, i can't help but watch the NCAA national championship and think "wow, the best college team would likely get shut out by the worst NFL teams practice squad" or in the basketball "wow, to think an NBDL team would slaughter UConn and we care?"...but hey, they're hungry.
Capt, we'll see how the "facts" held up when this intrusion is over and we still have the BCS...untill then, quit being such an asshole.

Yes it is amatuer, but I bet you wouldn't like a playoff system being taken away from the NBA, NFL, and MLB. TOURNAMENTS RULE NO MATTER WHAT THE SPORT IS! A playoff is needed for college football. 16 or 8 team playoff and still have the other bowl games. They could work it out. I just think it would be more fun to watch as a fan. There are millions just like me Kings.
