| It's so funny how much I hated them back in the early 2000's, with C-Webb, Bibby, Peja, Christie, Bobby Jackson, Vlade, Hedo, but the NBA is making a mistake here. | |

| It's a shame because the maloofs will pretty much only be NBA owners long enough to move the team to Anahiem. They won't own the team in 5 years, but right now they refuse to sell to buyers who would have kept the team in Sacramento. The Maloofs not selling the Kings is equivelent to a rich suburban family losing all of their money and all their possessions..but put all the money they have left just to keep their big house with nothing inside to continue putting on a front that they are big time. This move to Anahiem(if it happens, which it will) is simply a last gasp effort by the Maloofs to be appear like tycoons. It's obvious, because outside of Samuelei offering them money that wouldent even pay off all their financial debt to the city of Sacramento there is really nothing appealing about being the 3rd nipple in the market down there in a business sense. Otherwise Kansas City would have been a better choice for them..but there was no billionaire over in KC looking to help their relatively broke asses pay off some of their debt while offering an arena that has more luxury boxes.
The maloofs are the second poorest owners in the NBA, I'm guessing that they are ahead of New Orleans by default for the simple fact that the NBA owns the Hornets and pump as little money as possible in them. They lost their beer distribution in New Mexico and a private equity group has pretty much taken over the Palms Casino. The Maloofs are close to being irrelevent head figures in Las Vegas...which they pretty much already are.
As for the Arena deal. Both sides have to take the blame here. The city of Sacramento voters(a lot of union people) wouldnt pass a tax on a cure for cancer, let alone an arena if it does not help union shit while the Maloofs 1) didnt have the money to put behind an arena and 2) were very greedy in their demands that any sane voter would tell them to go fuck themselves.
It's sad. My father and i were season ticket holders from 1996-2007 I was at the playoffs wars with the Lakers, Jazz, Mavericks, and well over a hundred regular season games. Not counting all the times i went as a kid in the early 90's and then the games i've gone to over the past couple years.
I knew an arena deal had to be made, and these last two years i was pretty sure this would happen so i have had to time to adjust to the thought of the Kings being gone from Sacramento.
It's just 10 years ago i never thought the Maloofs would have run not only the Kings to the ground, but themselves to the ground as well. What a fuckin joke those guys turned out to be.

| Apparently Ron Burkle(billionaire associate of President Clinton and owner of Pittsburgh Penguins) wants to buy the Kings and keep them in Sacramento. Released a statement a few hours ago.
Stern wants more billionaires to be owners. Maloofs whole claim is that they have to move because local government won't build them an arena and it makes no financial sense to stay. Well, if a billionaire who has already got an arena built in a small market(pitt) and says thats bunk the maloofs might look bad with the board of governers.
The NBA has squeezed "poor" owners before. They pretty much forced George Shinn to sell the Hornets. The Maloofs have refused to sell, but hopefully the NBA sticks a hefty price tag on a move and along with the $77 million debt the Maloofs have to Sacramento, they will be forced to sell to people who are actually wealthy.
A small glimmer of hope..atleast more than last night.

| So are the Kings staying now? My buddy told me some report the Maloofs got a new person or group to buy into the team potentially. | |

| The last report i heard...the LA times said the Kings are going to be in Sacramento atleast one more season to give Kevin Johnson time to put his plan in effect. Maybe your buddy heard a more recent report...but if the maloofs found a new person to buy into the team to keep them in Sac. It's likely that they are selling majority ownership off to somebody who can afford it and wants to keep the team in Sac. The Maloofs have been very stubborn about not selling the team but everybody has a price.
Maloofs have no hand right now. They want the team in Anahiem by next season but Kevin Johnson made an amazing presentation to the NBA and has got millions of dollars in corporate endorsements to support the Kings while they attempt to get an arena built, and has lined up a group led by Ron Burkle to buy the team in the event that the Maloofs come to terms with the fact that their empire has crumbled to the ground and they are not NBA caliber owners anymore. That along with the Lakers and the Weak sisters being in the LA market there is a lot working against the Maloofs than past owners seeking relocation.

| Yeah I'm not exactly sure, but I read the next year thing also. He mentioned something about the Maloof's and another partner, thought you'd know...But aren't the Maloof's like horribly in debt and barring a move to Anahiem getting millions in loan to help relieve some of the debt? Maybe he got the one more year thing and that confused... | |

| atleast one more year in Sac Town.
Hopefully the Maloofs can get squeezed by Burkle or somebody else serious about getting an arena built. Fact is, they'll still refuse to put any money(because they don't have any) towards an arena and no taxpayers will finance an arena that will serve as a handout to these guys. The Kings future in Sac will not be secure until these guys are gone.

| If they are shitty owners then NBA should do what MLB did to the jackass running the Dodgers into the ground, step in D Stearn and take over, I hate hearing that dude on any Radio Show, he is damn smug. | |

| They arent THAT shitty to the point where they are pissing off David Stern. McCourt was taking out huge loans from the MLB to make payroll and then he went behind Selig's back to take out a huge loan that Selig specifically told him not to do. Also, he reduced security at the games and a Giants fan remains in a coma. That and the Fox loan were the last straw for McCourt. Maloofs have a mountain of debt and that is the main reason they tried to bolt to Anahiem of all places because the Ducks owner was dangling some(not close to all) debt relief over their heads. If the Maloofs had gone against the NBA and filed for relocation, then you might of saw Stern whoop their ass..but they are giving the Maloofs a chance to get their shit together just like they are giving the City Of Sacramento to get it together. Maloofs won't own the team in 3 years no matter the location. Right now they are in denial about their financial state and are putting up a front..kind of like McCourt...but the Maloofs to their credit, have not put their hand in the cookie jar too many times as of yet. | |

| The loan was not behind MLB's back, it was disclosed. McCourt as owner took it as a capitol investment into for the organization, which as the owner he has the right to do so with out ever telling MLB. The organization fired their head of security last year and had no clear replacement, but their security spending has grown each year. MLB has refused to meet with McCourt in 2011 in regards to their organization operations plan which last years was labeled as a 'model' and 'exemplary' plan by the league. There has yet to be an explanation as to why an obviously lucrative 17 year $3billion deal with Fox TV and the Dogders has been vetoed and stalled by MLB going on four times now despite the readiness of LA and Fox to make it happen. Selieg refuses to meet with McCourt or any Dodger representative right now because they fucking'em over raw dog no lube and know that they will be sued, they don't want to mes up and make it any easier. | |

| regardless, I don't see any easy way McCourt retains his full ownership. He probably has a big payday, but getting the dodgers back under his full control probably never happens. | |

| I can't believe Kevin Johnson might have pulled this off.
If i lived in Sacramento county, he would get my vote this election..just for the effort. He really pulled this whole plan out of his ass in a very tight window.

| The Maloofs are scumbags. Even Stern thinks they are full of shit and Kevin Johnson no longer trusts them and wont put work into any deal he knows they'll shoot down, because they want to be somewhere where they can feel glamorous again...they can feel like they are a big deal while everybody that has done even the slightest research on it knows they are relatively broke compared to what they used to be, and of course, what it takes to be a professional sports team ownership.
George Maloof even brought up the idea of renovating the current arena...an idea they have shot down for years. They own that arena, they would have zero place to ask the city to help renovate that arena but i guess thats the terms to do that. They are full of shit. They say they never agreed to pre-development cost, which is pretty fuckin key...that meeting does not get out of the Orlando hotel room with handshakes and Gavin Maloofs blubbering like a girl if they didnt agree to that.
There is still time but the Maloofs have successfully blown up any willingness to help from the NBA, the city officials lost what little trust they had for them, and the city hates them more than ever. Nobody is going to try and get a deal done for them any longer, and i think thats what they wanted. They want the city to give up because the city doing so much last year prevented it. Stern acknowledged the city more than did their part so i hope he and the NBA owners don't let these guys fuck over a city that did everything right and put so much up while the maloofs struggle to make the league minimum team salary barrier while sucking out money from the NBA's credit line and making the minimal payments in their 75 million dollar debt to Sacramento.
Hopefully the NBA forces them to sell, and make sure it's to somebody who is ready to do the right thing...which there are. There were a few who stepped up last year wanting to buy the team with the intent to keep them in Sacramento, but it's all the Maloofs have left in their pathetic fall from grace.
