Dont know if there has been a thread about this already but did anyone see last nights bellator event. It was actually really entertaining as most bellator events and the main event did let down imo. Now with that said, eddie is a great fighter and super entertaining however i really dont knpw how many could have him in their top 5 in the division. Pat is no can and no joke but the dud is just cracking 2nd teir imo. Not only that eddie was praised for having good head movement yet i saw so many shots landed on him clean by pat. Afyer so many attempts throughout the fight he was only able to take pat down twice wer pat got right back up. Seriously after watching eddie last night i could so see several lws beat him. Even before last night i really didnt tjink of him as a top 5 for i had really not seen something to make me think he was a top 5 but last night just sealed it for me. Thoughts?

My thought is that i disagree.

Eddie could be the best LW in the world if he had the oppurtunity to fight the guys that hold the key to that. Unfortunatley, not happening in Bellator although his destruction of Huerta said a lot because Huerta has fought a lot of guys considered among the best LW in the world and was competitive with all of them..nearly beat Maynard..and none of them destroyed Roger like EA did. EA made him look 3rd rate and that says a whole lot.

He's got similar movement to Edgar...actually, if anything..Edgar bit Alvarez style while they were training together a lot over the last couple years where Edgar adopted movement almost identical to EA's. Only Alvarez can knock you out. He also has powerful leg kicks. He has a strong submission game. One of, if not the quickest lightweight around. Head movement isnt perfect but that can also be attributed to his agressive style.

I don't remember anybody boasting his head movement unless Jimmy Smith was raving about it..but if there is a clear weakness in Eddie is that he will get hit but he can take the shots. If Eddie was as selective as Edgar, then he would not get hit as much...but Alvarez punches actually hurt his opponents..where as Edgar's just score points with his punches..not much bad intentions so this is why Eddie is agressive.

Also, some rank Alvarez top 5, others rank him just outside it...but he earned his spot in the top 10 awhile back when he destroyed Kawajiri who had a very high ranking at the time. He's beaten good LW's since then, although nothing that truly moves him forward in the rankings but no reason to move him back.

I'd put Alvarez against any LW in the world and think he has a good chance to win. The guy is the full package.

Curran was in full defense mode for 5 rounds the other night. Tough to do much with a guy like that. Eddie is for'real

Alvarez imo is a top ten lw. Dude is legit. With that said yes theu wer boasting his head movement. I dont think i have ever seen frankie get hit that much ,not even by bj who was one of the best strikers in the division. Also eddie might hit to hurt but pat answered right back with similat shots. Neither went down. Plus , bringing up huerta is pointless for the huerta that fought gray was in the top 20 at the time. The huerta that fought eddie was not even in the top 50. Eddie is a complete fighter imo and a would beat 95% of the division but wouldnt the top 5. I could be wrong and i will own up to it but until he does or leaves bellator to fight some of the best he wil never be in the top 5 or beat them in my book for those others have proven themselves unlike him

Edgar does get hit...that first round with Maynard saw Edgar get hit more times in 5 minutes than i've ever seen Alvarez hit in all his fights combined. That said, i noted Edgar does not get hit as much most of the time because his striking is more hit and run. He'll go in and land a shot that does little to no effect, but lands nontheless and then hop back out. Alvarez goes in and throws A LOT of punches and sometimes takes some in return.

Now for your Huerta dismissal. It's ridiculous. Not top 50..based on what? How Alavrez made him look?..or because he got robbed in a decision against Curran? That a way to discredit the loser while giving the winner no credit at all.

Eddie's a top 5 LW no doubt, but he's hittable for whatever reason, and gets rocked it seems every fight. He's got to get himself in SF or the UFC.

Lol, Dana doesn't think Aoki is top 10. Around the 3:30 mark.

Alvarez is the man. I'm not sure why he's content with Bellator when he could be an absolute superstar in the UFC. He's clearly top 5 if not the best in the world. Curran has shown great ability to get back up when taken down. Alvarez was super aggressive against him and he didn't know what the hell to do except stand there and try to counter. I thought Eddie looked awesome against someone that he should look awesome against.

freak, nobody is ranking him #1 based on work done...but Alvarez can beat any LW in the world IMO and apparently Bigs opinion as well. Not to say he couldnt lose to a few guys in the top 10..but not anybody he could not beat.

I have him number 5. I think Penn, Maynard, Edgar and Melendez beat him easy. Aoki already has.

Edgar vs Alvarez would be a spectacular fight IMO. I completely disagree that the guys you listed or anyone else at LW could beat Alvarez easily. Sure, they could all beat him, but he could beat all of them as well...Aoki included. You've listed a helluva group of LWs and they are all worthy of being on the list. I have no problem with you having him number 5 because...well...he's in Bellator and unfortunately matchups against the best in the world aren't possible for him. This needs to change if he cares about being the best. I'm sure he's comfortable dominating Bellator and they probably pay him well, but again...he could and would be a superstar in the UFC. It's beyond me why he isn't there.

In a cage he isn't. Aoki would get sprawl and brawled right out of the UFC with a couple tough fights

No doubt B, I think Melvin would fuck him up let alone some other guys, just a different game in the States.
