Had my first amateur MMA fight today

Won in the 2nd round with a triangle. Dude had a 5 inch reach on me and was workin me pretty good both standing and on the ground, and I think he underestimated my jiu jitsu, and I caught him with the triangle and he tapped.

The people I trained with say I have some really good raw potential as a well rounded fighter. They also said I need to learn how to pick my spots to strike against a guy with such a big reach on me, and if I can do that I will do really well.

I didnt realize how exhausting an MMA fight was, I knew the conditioning was tough and stuff, having gone through that the last 5 months....I didnt think transferring that to the fight would be as physically taxing as it was.

170 and I dunno, I could ask around. I'd be pretty shocked if nobody video'd it. I'd pry have to have them upload it too cuz im not very good with the computer lol

Nah hahaha, the face is still the money shot lol few places are swollen up and shit but not like quarry lol

and Cubua- yeah, its much harder than it looks. I thought with my boxing background and the training I had already gone through, that it would be a breeze..not so much lol.

and apparently the gym i train with taped it, but on like a VHS recorder or some shit, not a DVD/CD, im still askin around with some of the other people that were there, but havent heard anything back.

check with the promotors they usally have video. Or any spectators with a cell phone.

i cut from 190 but walk around at 200-205

Im usually around 185, and I was cuttin weight from like 180

Where do you train at anyway? Train with any guys we'd know?

Its a small gym that just opened a couple years ago I believe.

Its called Tuff-N-Stuff MMA in North Canton, Ohio

Still a relatively small and unknown gym, having just opened. They have no UFC people that work there or former UFC people. Its more or less people that compete in jiu jitsu competitions and things of that nature. They will set up fights for us when they feel we are ready.

Unfortunately this place doesnt have the money as of yet to have all the high-tech gadgets that some places have, but the gym itself is nice, the equipment is nice, and the training has been great so far.

How far do you think they can go there? A lot of times small gyms produce a couple of good guys who then go to bigger shows or better camps and realize where they really are. UFC level guys there possibly?

Ya never know, there are definately some guys there that are really good, but im not sure in all honesty, how to study that well enough into knowing who can be that good and who cant just yet. So far, a few of us are just guys that have "potential"

What was the promotion that ran the show?

wolf I know what your saying, i really dont think there is alot of difference. Seeing UFC fighters upclose and watching them fight i think they are all alot more comfortable in any given situation.(compared to those in local or small events) I may get totally flamed but i think tough guys with good skill are interchangeble in the fight game. IE you could replace a nate quarry with a number of guys out of small gyms and the quest name would get them big fights.

basically i think alot of it is where you train or who you know.
