| Ok, with the merger a month old it's time to start analyzing the Featherweight and Bantamweight divisions. It is clear that Dana plans on every featherweight and bantamweight not named Urijah Faber or Jose Aldo to be on the undercard or the first fight on the televised show.
Rumors are that the Bantamweight division is going to have a huge uphill battle to become relevant in the promotion. I personally agree, unless Faber can win the belt. Featherweight division can become a popular division in my opinion because it has 2 divisions that will feed into it (135 and 155) as well as an impressive champion. I believe that if the UFC did 1 of these 3 things, or even all 3, that they could make the Featherweight division one of the best in the company.
3. Get these guys on the main card - your average fan doesn't care who is fighting on the free prelim's on spike, they don't check the internet to see who won on the undercard, and most of UFCs audience obviously was not very familiar with the WEC. You have to let the public get acquainted with the fighters cause like it or not, not all fans are as die hard as we are. Put some of the little stars on a big tv audience and you will have more fans of the division.
2. Keep these guys busy - Sure it was a bad idea for Josh Grispi, but in 20 days you have just introduced UFC fans too two tough fighters in the division in Grispi and Hominick. Keep these guys fighting, dont let them sit for several months (like Pettis was going to at LW). Keep the names fresh in the publics mind.
1. Get Floyd Mayweather - remember when Floyd hinted at going to MMA, most called bullshit cause where would Floyd fight in the UFC? 155? Doubtful. With the 145 pound division you have a perfect place for Mayweather to come over and make the promotion the most money it will ever make. If Zuffa paid Floyd what he wanted it would be worth it , Floyd vs Aldo or someone else high up in the 145 pound food chain would be a huge PPV success. Look how much attention Couture vs Toney got, multiply that by a thousand. That would be the level of coverage that this fight would get. Sure Floyd would get drilled, but for those that have been sleeping through his run of huge PPV sales, THAT IS WHAT FANS WANT TO SEE. People pay to hopefully watch Floyd get fucked up (i am actually a fan of Floyd). Line Floyds pockets, get the biggest gate and PPV revenue ever. I guarantee it. And oh yea, the division will flourish just like the light heavyweight division did when Ken Shamrock fought Tito. Randy, Chuck and Tito were not selling PPVs before that happened. TRUTH
