- Another day and yet more news on the ongoing David Haye-Klitschko saga; only this time the news involves WBC ruler Vitali Klitschko. According to an interesting news article in The Express, Adam Booth, trainer and manager of “The Hayemaker,” claims his fighter is now targeting the winner of the upcoming Vitali Klitschko-Odlanier Solis clash set for Germany in March.
Haye is definitely going to fight in May, but it was widely assumed he would accommodate his mandatory challenger Ruslan Chagaev in his next fight. Now, according to Booth, the WBA champ hopes to face the March 19th winner - whether it’s Klitschko OR Solis..
“I just hope Vitali has a bigger set of man jewels than his brother, who should go into politics as a spin doctor,” Booth said. “The Wladimir Klitschko fight is dead in the water. He didn’t want it, simple as that, but David Haye’s career does not revolve around him. Unlike all the 50-odd opponents who Wladimir has fought, David is not going to sit around waiting for him.
“Vitali’s fight with Odlanier Solis is interesting because, if Vitali wins, David would love to take him on. If Solis wins, it would be a rematch of their fight in the world amateur championships, where Solis won and David took the silver. That would be a great fight.”
Indeed a Haye-Solis II would be a great fight; but will the unbeaten Cuban upset the odds and “Dr. Iron Fist” in March? Most fans seem to think not, but maybe if Solis does win, a clash between he and Haye will prove a whole lot easier to make than a Haye-Klitschko fight has done. All the talk has been about a Wladimir Vs. Haye collision, but maybe it will be Vitali Vs. Haye after all. We can but hope!
For though Booth says Haye is most interested in facing the March winner, there is nothing concrete and, to further complicate the issue, there remains the mandatory status of Chagaev. “The White Tyson” wants the fight big time, and it may prove difficult getting him to take step aside money if a Haye-Solis or Haye-Klitschko fight looks a real possibility.
Booth said Chagaev remains a possibility for Haye’s next fight; and that whoever he faces, Haye will step into the ring in May.
“Chagaev is a possibility and we will shall see how we go,” he said. “The big issue would be whether or not he would pass a medical. David is looking at fighting again in the second part of May.”
So, will it be Chagaev next for Haye (who has that Hepatitis issue hanging over him, possibly making it a long shot he would get a licence to box in the UK), or will it be the winner of Klitschko and Solis? It’s clear which scenario the fans will be hoping for! | |
