One of the fighters from our Future Prospects sections just signed with a big promotion

One of the guys I had put in the prospects section just got signed by Strikeforce.

Gian Villante, a two-time champion in Ring of Combat and Levittown native, has signed a multifight contract with Strikeforce, Newsday has learned.

Villante will make his Strikeforce debut in the heavyweight division against Chad Griggs on the Feb. 12 card at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, N.J.

Good signing, guy sounds like a fighter.

He's good, his only loss was when he broke his arm blocking a throw. As all things though we shall see when he meets better competition.

What weight do you think he should be fighting at? Can he be a competent HW? That is the big dog division in SF.

In my opinion he'll get crushed by the top HW's. He should stick to LHW but his first fight is at HW for Strikeforce.

Definite LHW if he wants to maximize his potential. Gian is only about 235 or so. This guy can fight though. He was a standout wrestler in high school, an All American and state champion, then played football at Hofstra University. The guy hits like a ton of bricks and is pretty solid on the ground. Im waiting for Weidman to get signed somewhere.

Weidman will be signed in a few more fights.

His first fight will get a lot more attention because it's a tournament alternate bout

Good pick up for SF! A friend of mine just mentioned him a month or so ago and I haven't checked into him, until you guys said something. They got a heck of a steal...

From what I hear it's only a 1 fight deal, guess it depends how he does.
