Every major sporting event and sporting organization in america almost always has a singing of the national anthem before games or main events.
Anyone else agree that a national anthem before UFC Main Events is long over due?

Fighter walkouts followed by "Ladies and Gentlemen.....ITS TIME" works for me. Plus with all the different nationalities in the UFC, you would have to sit through 2 national anthems. No thanks

Hate to come off as an anti patriot, but Im a little national anthemed out. Not that I would complain if they did it, but Im not going to lobby for it.

I just think it would honestly help alot of those writers that dont consider the UFC or MMA as a sport if when they were at an event they heard the national anthem before the main event.
Sounds nutty but could help people take the sport more seriously.
I mean really name a sporting event that doesnt have the national anthem before it? (other than mma)
baseball, boxing, hockey, football, basketball, shit even high school events have the national anthem. Couldnt hurt and the ohh it will screw up "Its Time" argument isnt that great considering Bruce lives in the shadow of his brother and the national anthem never screwed up "LLLLETS GET READY TOO RUMBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Don't you remember the old Don King PPV cards where there were 3 to 4 title fights per card???

Yeah I dont think its needed. When they fight in Montreal I dont want to hear there national anthem or Brazils so I just kinda think it opens up a can of worms.

They would have to sing the national anthems for every country that the card is representing. Imagine the mess it would be if Anderson, Brock, Gsp, Struve, Akyamma and Bisping were on one card

no they wouldnt iceberg thats jsut retarded, in boxing they normally sing the national anthem of the 2 fighters IN THE MAIN EVENT not of every fighter on the card.
So no one wishes MMA could have a Marvin Gaye or Whitney Houston national anthem moment?

U won me over Bird, your right, SF should do this.
though I do think any title fight, if it is not the main event, should also get the anthem treatment.

I could dig that since it would be a way of UFC showing their champions respect by playing their anthems. Glad I won someone over, really though nothing like a national anthem to get you pumped before a fight and a good way of culminating the night's event.
Boxing is woven and intertwined with american history, there have been 3 sports to be the msot dominant sport's in america, first there was boxing, the baseball and now football. The main reason boxing is accepted and doesn't face the naysayer's like MMA and mainly UFC do is because of this imo.
Certain sporting events have seriously taken the form of american and global politics and played out on a basketball court, a hockey rink, or a boxing ring. Correct or not Johnson vs Jeffries was white vs black, Louis vs Schmelling was democracy vs Facism, Ali vs Frazier 1 was more than a fight, the miracle on ice was more than a hockey game.
American mma has not had that moment yet, it hasn't become that important on the global or national scale and if it wants to become a huge success and respected sport they are going to need one of those fight's or events. A first step in becoming a respected sport and not just a niche entertainment for a demographic is encorporating the national anthem and dropping the damn gladiator opening montage. Have yall seriously watched that thing with a grown woman in the room?
Oh well this whole rant was just an excuse to show yall how cool this moment was and how cool sometight national anthems could be in mma and UFC.

I mean seriously in that ring we have a former 13 year old 7th grade drop out multi-millionaire, 2 convicted murderer's : one earned millions the other swindled millions, 1 of the greatest singers of our time, and a couple servicemen, a jewish lawyer who decided to become the most famous sports broadcaster ever, and what appears to be a midget in a uniform.
If that ain't america I dont know what is

those are held within the united states, therefore its alright while the ufc holds events worldwide and it would just look dumb IMO... not to mention all the foreign fighters in the UFC

well I assume Bird is only talking about fights in the US or fights featuring a US fighter. I also assume Bird would include the anthem of any non US citizen in the main event as well.
Though this does open the door to the rather common occurence when 3 anthems would be sung prior to the main event. Which could be a drag.

Well what happens when GSP fights someone like Paulo Thiago or something in Las Vegas in the main event? Brazilian, then Canadian, then Merican? Forget all that. There is enough filler between action already.
