| By Jason Kelly The broadcaster’s booth commonly used by a gentleman in a suit who gives statistics, play-by-play updates of the current match, and engages in friendly conversation with the co-commentator. Sports commentators are typically unbiased, non-judgmental, yet give an educated overview of something an athlete could have done differently to achieve success following an opportunity the athlete failed. The UFC broadcast booth does hold some of those principals but, they also incorporate a few of their own. An energized Mike Goldberg paired with an unpredictable Joe Rogan make a dynamic duo on the mic but, some things perhaps should not be said, on the mic. Mike Goldberg is fairly conservative when he is calling a fight, never too harsh on fighters, judges, or referees. Goldberg’s counterpart, Joe Rogan, approaches his commentating duties with more of a “freedom of speech” application. Joe Rogan has never been one to shy away from speaking his mind and he has the right to do that. Rogan is frequently on Youtube.com, U-stream.com, and his very own website Joerogan.com. He has many outlets to speak his mind about any current event he so chooses to speak on however, Rogan has chosen an additional venue to unleash his vocabulary or disagreeing remarks, the UFC broadcast both. Joe Rogan is a great commentator, very knowledgeable of the sport, breaking down intricate grappling maneuvers that the casual spectator might not understand, he has also been known to give criticism when it is needed. Joe never received much backlash for anything he said until The Ultimate Fighter 12 Finale, where he spoke on the Nevada State Athletic Commission and executive director Keith Kizer, accusing the commission of not being qualified to judge MMA fights properly. The comments followed Nam Phan’s decision loss to Leonard Garcia, a fight many people thought Phan won. Rogan expressed disgust by stating “…we should point out, that is the situation because of the Nevada State Athletic Commission.” while also adding “”I think (Kizer) needs to clean house. There’s a few very good judges surrounded by a bunch of incompetent morons, who know nothing about the sport.” Those statements are made by MMA fans habitually but, MMA fans do not have millions of people listening to their opinions. When Joe Rogan uses a UFC event to broadcast his personal feelings millions of people are listening and possibly being influenced to form their own opinion based on what Joe expresses, this occurrence prompted Kizer to release his own statement regarding Rogan’s remarks. Kizer’s rebuttal was not as attacking as Joe’s but, rather factual and professional. The issue has deescalated in the past week and Joe was probably never in any trouble from his employer, the UFC, but when Joe demonstrates his disapproval during a UFC event it is apparent that the victims do not appreciate it and they will fire back. Rogan has sparked fighters to voice their displeasure with him has well. Rogan criticized Leonard Garcia for his fighting style and Garcia retaliated, letting Rogan and everyone else know that he is angered by Rogan’s criticism, stating that is how he fights and it is not his fault if judges deem him as the winner. Most recently Rogan has been called out for his comments during the Georges St. Pierre, Josh Koscheck showdown, where Joe suggested someone needs to get the doctor out of the Octagon. The doctor was checking Koscheck’s right eye, which was badly damaged and swollen shut. Rogan stated that fights get stopped prematurely due to doctor stoppage; meanwhile Koscheck had a broken orbital socket. Twenty-four hours later, MMA websites were attacking Rogan for those comments, accusing Rogan of not being a doctor or a person qualified to know if the fight should be halted. Rogan appears to be in the hot seat now and everyone is looking to fry him. Joe Rogan is one of the very best at his job and Dana White knows that, therefore Joe knows his UFC employment is secure. Dana understands the person Joe is and allows Joe to speak his mind. The chance of Rogan receiving any backlash from the UFC is slim to none but, the outbursts could have unforeseen repercussions such as athletic commissions becoming uncooperative with UFC, fighters not wanting to do interviews with Joe because of his criticism of the fighter in the past, or potential UFC business partners fearing Rogan may attack them during one of his tirades. Anytime someone has an audience as big as Joe Rogan has during a UFC event they have to be that much more conscious of what they say. Part of what makes Joe so exciting are the outrageous things he says and hopefully that stays intact but, if Rogan continues to personally attack people it may become a personal problem. http://www.mmareligion.com/site2/?p=1191 | |

| The fact that he is a fan first is what makes him good behind the mic. He says what is being thought, brings honesty to the table. He has got carried away at times, but correctly pointing out the judges suck or hoping a doctor doesn't end a fight between rounds, no problem, he's real. Goldie is there to be the guy to not say whats on his mind and be the straight shooter. What Rogan brings to the table is one of UFC greatest assets, realness. | |

| Yep, there are so many times where Rogan takes the words right out of my mouth. Every now and then i think he hangs on one fighters nuts so hard that it makes it seem that the other fighter is not doing anything. Like Shogun-Machida I, Dunham-Sherk and Maynard-Diaz as recent examples. Sometimes he'll harp on something too much and it gets annoying, but i would not rather hear anybody else call these fights.
Goldberg on the other hand only has phrases. Seriously, when you play the video game it's pretty much the same as listening to Goldberg call any fight...then again, i'm glad he does not pretend to know what he's talking about...i'm just bored of his phrases.

| As far as Goldberg goes: as long as he's been doing this you would think he'd have put some effort into learning some of this shit beyond what Joe has told him during broadcast before. | |

| Goldie has gotten worse. He's like an innocent child on the broadcasts. Funny though because he's clever and always rags on dumbass fans at the QnA's too.
Imagine Joe and Steven Quadros together.
