| Obviously at the time of Shields leaving SF had egg all over their faces.
But given that since that time, shields has put in a typically boring, and not so convincing win, while Hendo capped the KO event of the year, does the verdict change?

| No. This wasn't event of the year because no one really saw this card. Too bad Hershal Walker wasn't on it in place of that boring first fight to raise the profile of the event. | |

| I may be just caught in the moment but looks like SF got the better deal but to be honest i guess it also matters how much they get paid. If u get Jake for 100,000 a fight and Hendo wants 250,000 a fight Shields maybe the better value. | |

If Herschel Walker would've gotten starched out cold by some fucking bum that no one has ever heard of this would have been the card of the century

| SF for me, but it's a pretty good question. Depends on perspective and what you measure as factors of 'winning'. I like Hendo better than Shields, always have, still do. | |

| what if Hershell did the starching???
Hendo brings alot more eyes than Shields does
did you hear the crowd??? That was what fans want to see I dont care if people say they werent even fights. Why was Tank Abbott so popular, why was Mike Tyson a huge star? People want to see one person knock the shit out of another person, thats what it is when it comes down to it.
StrikeForce provided that tongiht.

| Henderson is the bigger draw but Shields is the better fighter right now. It all depends what they both do next year. |

| I don't know. Can't say SF won in the Hendo signing but i don't think they feel like losers in UFC signing Shields. UFC didnt lose in signing Shields or letting Hendo walk. They can market the numbers and as soon as he loses, they can strongarm him into taking a paycut or leave like the did to Werdum who was making way more money in UFC than his name value warranted, much like Shields.
Henderson is the more exciting fighter and i do think he would win a rematch with Shields healthy, but i can't say Strikeforce won when they are paying a guy who i don't think is a draw money that a draw would make.
Shields on the other hand. I don't really see him as a loss for Strikeforce or a true gain for UFC if we are talking about what most fans give a fuck about.
I like Jake but he beat Daley, Mayhem and Henderson on CBS. Over a amazing 17-18 fight win streak he has compiled wins over very impressive names. He's earned every top 5 MW or WW ranking vote he has recieved. He won his UFC debut. Still, nobody cares about the guy.
It's not a loss for SF because Shields was a ratings disaster. If you run on a ratings model. You don't want a ratings disaster. Shields-Lawler was a bust. Shields-Mayhem almost killed thier first CBS show before Fedor-Rogers shot the rating up. You can talk about the fact he was the champ but he won a vacant belt and defended it once. He hurt the Hendo signing, but win or lose there was no way SF was going to pay Shields big time money to deliver small time ratings and potentially lose his belt in his next fight anyway. It was a good business move and one of the reasons why Strikeforce is still alive and going strong after 20 months of going national when most were dead months ago.

| and the fact he should stay away from middleweight and this point in his career. And ring rust.
I believe Hendo is still competitive. At the very least Decision Dan has morphed into a Carwinesque monster.

| Of course he's still competitive. He lost one fight by getting controlled by a guy who controls everybody he fights...before that, there were very few fighters in the MW division and very few fighters in the LHW division that anybody would pick against Hendo and i'm not sure if that has changed by a big margin. Hendo is just another victim to the common "only as good as your last fight" garbage practiced by most fans. Instead of giving Shields credit, Hendo is just old and washed up.
Hendo is still every bit the top middleweight or light heavyweight he was in the UFC, maybe not as good as he was in PRIDE.

Gassing badly at 40 and being controlled by a smaller fighter for four rounds would raise questions for any fighter, and I think in most cases they may be valid. I think it's clear this title run is probably Dan's last.

| Shields also controlled Yushin Okami and Jason Miller. Two fighters much bigger than Jake Shields that were and are young. In the case of Yushin Okami, that should tell you enough about how Shields being a "smaller guy" is not a factor, he's a lot better now then he was then. Plus, i believe Henderson was in fact injured. No need to raise questions. Eventually you just have to give credit where credits due instead of discredit where it's not warranted. | |

| No one dominates Hendo that badly for four rounds. That domination is made worse when you consider the disparity between the first round and the other four. | |

| I nthe real race, being the marathon over the sprint, the UFC won easily. Hendo and others may not want to see the writing on the wall, but he is 40! Shields can generate many great moments to come, Hendo might have one or two...if lucky. | |

| maybe they would have if they didn't have technical difficulties and other shit that took time away from the show. That and a bunch of Manswers advertisements and 20 "run this town tonight" commercials for Kos and GSP which easily constitute the worst trailer for a fight I can remember | |
