I do give Koscheck a shot. His striking has improved a great deal from their first fight where he was schooled in the stand up, it was the difference. So has his overall grappling game. When they first fought i felt Koscheck was just a one dimensional wrestler and he gave a well rounded GSP a pretty good fight then, and even won a round on every scorecard. Obviously GSP has improved a lot since then and he's a pretty big favorite here but crazier things have happened and Koscheck is for real.

Ben Askren is a great guy to be training with for the wrestling. defending unrelnting takedown attempts, and conditioning portion. However, Ben can't simulate GSP's strength, submission game, and ape technique.

Askren is good for some aspects of this, like sprawling once GSP has dug in for an attempt and getting off the bottom etc, but what makes GSP's takedowns so good isn't just the power of his double leg, it's the way he blends Machida like striking with perfectly timed takedown attempts that are nearly impossible to stop. They're impossible to block because he fires them at the exact moment his opponent is most vulnerable. Askren doesn't have that in his game. Kos has improved his slugfest striking offense but I really question whether he'll have an answer for GSP's speed, timing and ability to mask strikes while reading his opponents. Because GSP doesn't have a lot of knockouts, his karate based striking is underrated in the MMA community.

GSP will carry a significant mental advantage into the cage. He's beaten Koscheck once, and made Koscheck look like a complete idiot on the show. He's clowned him in every way but verbally and I think based on the show and Koscheck's behavior that GSP is really starting to get to Josh Koscheck deep down. I don't expect him to fight smart. I expect him to try and "take the center of the Octagon" and look to "just punch that faggot little frenchie in the mouth" and wind up on his back, eating elbows within 60 seconds.

I also don't think Koscheck is going to magically invent takedown defense he doesn't have. He didn't have it before against GSP and he won't now.

The whole 1st rd of Machida-Rampage I was yelling at Rampage to take down Machida each time he threw a kick. GSP does that so easily that I must have forgot how hard it is to do.

Kos was tooling him and that stoppage was plain awful.

I just posted the gif in response to "Kos wins" because that felt like the right moment for a gif of that nature, and for no other reason. Kos would wreck Thiago and I imagine he'll get a chance too after GSP beats him up.

It's always the right moment to watch Cockcheck get ko'd.

He dropped Alves with a punch. He dropped Fitch multiple times with punches. At the end of the first round in the second Hughes fight he dropped him with punches as the bell rang.

GSP doesn't through a lot of punch combinations or power hooks. While he doesn't have exorbitant power he doesn't have a lack of power either. It's more to do with his fighting style.

He doesn't seem to have confidence in his striking, George is way too cautious because of what Serra done to him.

It's been five years since GSP stopped someone with strikes, four since the Hughes stoppage.

I think Kos wasn't bullshitting when he said the first time they faught he thought he was fighting a standup guy, didn't train for the ground at all, and was surprised by his badass wrestling. Now even if I'm right and that's true it doesn't mean he'll be able to stop all GSP's takedowns but he'll atleast be ready for a wrestling match, and that alone CAN make this a very deferent fight. But we'll see.

I think GSP will actually trade with him for at least the 1st rd then he'll revert to the wrestling in the 2nd rd just to confuse Cockcheck.

That's def the key imo for GSP to win. Get Kos pissed off and coming forward hard then boom he's on his back. But if Kos can get the better of the early standup and stuff a takedown or atleast make it real hard for him to get that would give Kos a boost in confidence and put a dent in GSP's from there Kos has a chance. IMO
