Former BW champion Eddie Wineland scheduled to return to action at WEC 53.

This is a good fight, but Wineland should squash this guy. Wineland has the second best boxing or footwork in the division easily, with Cruz being the best.


The booking of this fight does lend a lot of credibility to the idea Banuelos was being fed to Torres as a(relatively) easy fight. With Wineland hurt and unavailable, Banuelos was the best option for Torres in his UFC debut. But this fight means Wineland could have taken the fight against Miguel Torres in January. The UFC decided against introducing these guys to fans by giving us the most competitive match up between two former champions who arestill in their primes and top contenders to win the belt again, and has opted to give their best guys relative snowballs to build toward bigger fights later.

Worst case scenario for the division, Antonio Banuelos, Demetrious Johnson and Ken Stone all win and completely cannibalize all the best contenders in the 135 lb class.

Ya, well I don't know what fights you're watching if you think some of these guys are significantly better. The footwork, head movement, accuracy, power and his wrestling base. Wineland is an elite BW. BW is pretty stacked though with all these guys, so any number of them could be better. But none are significantly better. Page wades in with hooks and power but doesn't set up his punches as well, Torres has never had the boxing skills of Wineland and I firmly believe that any Miguel Torres that fought in the WEC would lose to Wineland, Benavidez is great but too small, wouldn't threaten Eddie imo, Jorgensen is a tough fight for anyone, Bowles, Cruz and Faber are the toughest matches for him.

The Beebe fight sucked and he's been submitted his share of times, but he's only 26 and ever improving. He could win the title as easily as anyone mentioned.

Cruz, Bowles, Faber, Torres, Benavidez, Page, Jorgensen

And yes BW is stacked, that division is actually pretty awesome.

Eddie Wineland's BW title actually works against him, especially the loss to Beebe. Because that was well before the BW title was a real world championship, and was a glorified club title. Leads to the perception he was a mediocre fighter from before the WEC was The WEC. But Wineland's last two fights in the WEC are things of beauty. I've rewatched them numerous times. But not a lot of people know about him or have seen many of these fights, I think only his last was on the maincard.

Maybe it's not hate as much as lack of knowledge and exposure to his skills. I myself barely knew of him a few months ago.

Why is Torres better, where is Wineland lacking? He is criminally underrated everywhere. 14 in the consensus rankings while guys like Banuelos and Valencia are ranked higher? Makes little sense.

Maybe if they were the same size. Horrific match up otherwise. Joe may be a little faster but his striking isn't in Eddie's league, and I don't think he could get Wineland down, who has awesome defensive wrestling. I guess we'll have to find out this year as all these guys will fight each other soon enough.

Not seeing the size effecting Benavidez at all, Wineland is no better then Torres.

Wineland will fight someone like Page or Bowles maybe in a comeback fight and lose before then anyways,

He maybe criminally underrated by some but not by the list LA gave which I agreed to. Now I agree rating him under Banuelos and Valencia doesn't make much since, but Torres beats Wineland bro. Where is Wineland lacking in that fight uhh ground game, you said yourself so you already know he's been sub a few times. I think Torres is significantly better than Wineland on the ground. Torres has garbage takedowns and his style is tailor made to get KTFO'd by Eddie's standup. He's been sub'd but the only person to do that recently was Rani and he subs everyone.

I'd bet money on Torres if they fought
