| I'm trying a bit to wrap my head around this. I have been hearing rumor's about the entourage and cost of this trip for a few days now and have really struggled to believe it. Even if it's true that he's taking 3,000 people including secret service, other government officials and media members... Even if it's true that he emptied out the entire Taj Majal for their usage and keeping the spill over in another 5 star resort... Even if it's true that there's going to be some 30+ war ships patrolling the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal... How is it possible that they can spend 2 billion dollars on this 10 day trip? The math (And poor decision making) just doesn't add up, yet I have found nothing giving proof that this isn't true...
Can someone out there please provide me with something saying this trip isn't costing us much more than a camel and chest full of treasure? Please...

| 2 billion dollar trips, GDP? That doesn't seem excessive to you? Again, I'm having a hard time putting the numbers together, but I can't find one reputible source that is shooting this down. 200 million a day in this economy is ignorant to say the least... Buy a fucking web cam and have your conference or leave a couple thousand people behind if that's what it takes to travel... | |

- The Indian media reports also say security for the Presidential trip will cost $200 million a day. Morrell “there's been a lot of creative writing that's been done on this trip over the last few days. I've seen other reports with some astronomical figures in terms of what it costs to take these trips. I don't know the cost. We don't speak to the cost.” White House spokesman Robert Gibbs was blunt in his characterization of the cost reports, “this trip doesn't cost $200 million a day.”

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2010/11/pentagon-dismisses-reports-of-34-warships-for-obama-trip-security.html Glad to hear someone is speaking out here... They aren't denouncing the amount of people, the reports about taking over the Taj and aren't being very specific about cost. Rumors like this don't usually start without some basis. I sure hope the cost isn't anywhere near what they are saying and can't wait to hear what the actual cost is...

| Thats the same way the presidents have been traveling. Bush's and Clinton traveled with 3 747's, several hundred personnel, numerous blackhawks, Seakings, and 30 + vehicle motorcades at a minimum.
I agree though, find a better way to do it. It's the 10's, telecommute.
Congressional Travel is even worse given the number of travelers.

| This is one of the biggest reasons people have a hard time taking "economical issues" seriously. All they see is billions going to this and they are broke at home...makes it kinda hard to relate. | |
