What I've noticed in seeing this question 50+ times over the last five or so years is it's almost always started by Kobe/Laker fans looking for validation for their guy...

Kobe isn't top 10.

I watched "Pistol: Birth of a Legend" at a young age. I also had his instructional videos. Pete was the man.

The question asked about NBA players, not college. Pete belongs on the top-50, but nowhere near a top-10.

I disagree... Pete couldn't play defense to save his life and was little more than just a shooter. Stockton was a floor leader who could D up and score whenever necessary, rather than look to score first. Stockton was easily one of the most well rounded guards ever to play.

He had amazing passing ability not just shooting. He was a team player in every way.

Wasn't knocking his passing ability, but his defense... There was none. And since they played two different games it's tough to compare, but I'll take a floor general with a genius basketball IQ who can D, pass and shoot every day, all day. And not to go to that area... But I have the advantage of actually seeing both of them play...

Kobe not top 10? Jesus, and it's started by basketball fans not Laker fans, ESPN talks about it all the time and they hate the Lakers, it's talked about because it's becoming a discussion of becoming at least in the argument of best ever, let alone top 10, props for making a list though.

Easy Kid, learn to count and see that Kobe is in the top 10. The one's that follow are honorable mentions. I did the little dot thing and added the comment to mess with you a bit... You're entirely too easy to hook, LA.

He is the closest thing to Jordan the NBA has and probably will ever see.

Kobe is no where near the top 3.

How is he not? Only 5 guys have very strong arguments to be above him, most think he ends up top 3 when all is said and done anyways.

We're talking about now not when he retires. He could die tomorrow.

Even now, look at his accomplishments

Jordan, Russell, Bird, Magic and Shaq are all easily ahead of him. Let's wait till his career is over 1st.

Shaq isn't anymore, Russell played in a 16 team era, only 15 pts a game, 20 rebs over white guys mostly., I'd only put him above out of respect for the history, but if I'm thinking true best, then no.

MJ, Magic, Bird def, then Kareem and Russell

Shaq's career over Kobe's career. Less teams means each team was deeper. Russell won 11 titles in 13 years. Top 3 for sure.
