I'm actually in line with those who believe the Moon was originally part of Earth and broken off, then captured by Earth's gravitational pull, on a side note.

Um everyone knows the moon formed when another planet, Theia, slammed into the Earth and the accretion disk coagulated into the moon. It's also how the Earth got tits super sized iron core.
